The game was so boring that he probably fell asleep during the highlights.

He said too many drops and overthrows. Gave Rick Clausen a game ball who in turn gave it to Rob Smith. Fulmer also gave a lot of credit to UAB and said a win is a win whether it's 52-50 or 3-0.

Forgetting all the QB talk, can I just say that I love Rick Clausen? And this time, for his team spirit and his heart. Everytime he's been interviewed, he's had nothing but great things to say about Erik and the other guys.

He's such an all-around good guy. I really hope he does well this season. Nothing against Erik, but it's nice to see Rick get a little praise for all his hard work. Lord knows he's had his share of hardships at the University.

Also gave Harrell a game Ball. Added that screws needed to be tightend. Gave props to the fans in Neyland for letting the officials know about some (questionable)calls made or not made. He just didnt really seemed to concerned about the play saturday.

He spoke pretty high on Riggs, sounded pleased with Foster and the carries he made.

CPF, said he went and found Hackney after the game and gave him a hug around the neck for being the tough, gutsy, player he was.

He sounded eager to get back to work for the off week, and head into the UF game week with a better evaluation of our starters.

Not every time. When it first came out that Ainge was starting, Rick was seriously pissed in his first interview after that.

Really? Care to pull that one out and show us, cause you are the ONLY person I have seen notice that.

I'm pretty sure "obviously disapointed" doesnt = "seriously pissed".

Obviously disappointed can come across as seriously pissed... I got that vibe from him as well last weekend... but Rick has a right to feel that way. He also always seems to go home, think it out, and get his head back in the right place. "I've done this before, I'll do it again."

No one is perfect, but his attitude is about as close as it comes.

I saw the interview with Clausen and he seemed to be very unpleased by the decision, but he still did a good job of giving Ainge credit and not acting like an @$$.

RC is a class act and a competitor. Of course he wanted to be named starter. I dont want any player playing for the VOLS who doesnt care if he starts or not.

But the way he has handled himself, from being named 3rd string QB in 04, to coming off the bench against ND, to leading us to a blowout win in Dallas, to having to take a back seat AGAIN to Ainge, to giving Smith HIS game ball.

That folks sounds to me like the leader I want on the field.

I'd be pissed if he didnt act that way after he found out. That shows that he thinks he's better than EA. We need a confident QB, not a cocky one.

I see nobody is talking about Ainge not showing up in the interview what!!!! Now that is class. Take the heat and be a man. If you are our qb and have a bad game and duck out, We need someone else

In one of the interviews at the end of last season, when asked about the whole 3rd string thing his exact words were "I WAS PISSED!! What kind of competitor wouldnt be?" But he settled into the role that was handed to him. I think the world of him now, but it took being a man and taking the crap handed to him when he messed up to earn that respect.

And while I am at it, let me say this and it will be my last personal shot for the year. I did not like it when i watched "Inside the Orange" last week and you see the lineman, and defensive players in their best suits, and ainge is out there in his very "casual" clothes with his earings shining in both ears. I dont care what you do on your time, but when all eyes are on you representing the U of T, take some pride and show some class! What is next? Volwalk in jogging pants and a celtics hat on sideways? Come on!

Thanks for letting me vent!

Jimmy

If Clausen is a competitor and wants to be starting at QB for UTK I HOPE he is disappointed about not winning the starting QB job. Do you want a guy at QB for UTK that just says "oh well, I'm not starting how cares?"

I dont think Rick said that. I think he was more along the lines of "The coaches made their decision. No, Im not happy about it, but I have to get better and have myself prepared for when the opportunity comes".

He accepted his role. Yes, it did piss him off. But he accepted it and went on.

This in no way is meant to disparage Erik. I love the kid and he's going to be a great one.

But what Freak says here may be a big part of the reason Rick seems to manage the offense, and they (as Randy said, "seems to have a calming effect on our offense") just seem to calm down and perfom much better with Rick under center.

Giving Rob the game ball was a real show of class and leadership. That's what this team's going to need down the stretch, especially if we lose one.

Rick has the respect of his teammates and I believe they trust him not to beat them. I'm not as sure they have that comfort level with Erik.

Rick's a class act.

Erik's day will come. I believe this is going to be Rick's year though.

THE problem? Suppose we beat every team we play, all 13 of them, by 7 points? Even you would be happy with that.

Lawgator, You have just stepped over the line into Bammer territory. Maybe you ought to grab a biscuit and run because this is still the house of the Volunteers and that was disrespectful.
