Physicians Regional AKA St Mary's Hospital To Permanently Close

St. Mary's was kind of a dump when I used to make food service deliveries.

I spent a lot of time wandering those hallways when I was a teenager and in my 20s. That was the "go to" hospital for my mom's side of the family.

I was born there too. (1975)

Been a long time coming. Was originally set to close in March but continued losses put such a drain on the system it had to be done. I feel for those that will Ben out of work because of this and hope they can’t find employment elsewhere within the company. The building itself is a bit of a mess but some of the older parts are amazing and sad to see a piece of history pass.

Wayne Smith is all about the money. Too expensive to keep it open. Until CHS gets it's debt under control, you can expect to see more of this as well as selling off of some assets.

Tennova might be one of the worst run companies I’ve ever worked with in healthcare

I worked for CHS (parent company of Tennova) for 8 years. All. About. The. Money. Wayne has some serious greed. What's kinda funny, they wouldn't give employees a decent raise, but you could leave and stay away for a few months then come back at a much higher pay. They never did figure that out.

Ever increasing utilization costs and lower CMS reimbursements are putting a major strain on the ability for hospitals to stay open. You've had nothing but consolidation over the past 10 years, and what few independent hospitals are left are either going to be bought out by major health systems, or they'll get put out of business when a new hospital is built in that same market. It's a cutthroat business at the executive level of healthcare.

I know CHS very well. I've been involved with a contracting / Legal process that's been ongoing for over a year now. Let's just say that their Legal department could be much improved.

In all fairness however, I've actually had good experiences with Tennova.

Tennova makes some of the worst decisions from a medical standpoint and management of resources that I’ve ever seen. Like moving the OB services to PRMC from a newer west hospital and then closing it less than a year later. The “promise” of expansion that no one believes because there is nothing being built. It’s a real **** show and that’s just from my end.

CHS is a joke of a company. I don’t see them being a company in 7-10 years. Glad I switched to lifepoint.

I was in a director role for a tennova and asked for a raise and didn’t get one so I told them I’d find another job. Found another job and then they had the ability to shell out $10000 more a year and I said too bad, shoulda cared before I said I was going to look for another job.

CHS is absolutely a joke of a company. These idiots are literally business people who know nothing about how a hospital is run or actually works. They have no concept of patient care whatsoever and it drives trained, licensed health care workers insane. CHS could handle smaller campus hospitals but when they acquired St Mary's which was literally 4 times the size of what they were used to they bit off WAY more than they could chew. The other problem is they are a "for profit" company and the patient population and area that St Mary's is in doesn't support actually making a profit. Add to it the utilities and taxes for St Mary's is costing CHS 3 million a month BECAUSE they're "for profit". This is all info you aren't going to hear in the news. KPD was just issued an eviction notice, probably from Clayton Family Foundation, so that's probably contributing to the timing of this all. Apparently Jim Clayton of Clayton Homes wants a science museum with his name on it where the current KPD is.

I was as well. Had to threaten legal action over on call pay. A year or so later my position was eliminated. 6 months later the hospital closed. The powers that be cut a third of the jobs prior to the place closing. None of those jobs were management except for my position (Director of IT) and the director of operations (Maintenance). Let's ditch a bunch of lower paying jobs so that we can keep the overpaid CEO and CFO around longer. Since it is the CEO and CFO that ran it into the ground.

I got a different job within a month doing less work and making 20% more money. Many of my former co-workers were not as fortunate. Most of the clinical staff had to relocate or have a really long commute. All the non clinical folks got the shaft.

I’m the director of operations. Saying our dept. was understaffed and underlaid was an understatement. 325,000 sq. ft. Facility with an additional Dr. offices that spread over 3 counties with a staff of 7 guys total including myself was a joke.

I believe it. I was the entire IT department for the main hospital and 7 offsite clinics.

Bummer about being underlaid too.

Judging by the experience a family member of mine recently had with her recent joint replacement, they should probably go ahead and close down now.

A great friend of mine died after being sent home too soon after routine surgery at that place.

It sounds to me like they were understaffed at this recent hospitalization, and there was a lot of uncertainty about the future of the employees. That's not really what you want to deal with in recovering from a major surgery...

Had an appointment at Tennova North with my doctor who was formally at P.R. That place isn't ready for the influx of patients !! Had to hike about 3/4 of a mile from my parking place, elevators are really small, etc. My doctor said that they asked all the staffs about moving them, they voiced all their concerns, and nobody listened. He said that they talked about additional parking lots, but right now you see cars parked in the grass everywhere.

More grand Tennova planning. Trust me, that’s not the only issue. From a logistics standpoint, they aren’t ready at many levels and have known this Day was coming for over a year

The almighty dollar is what is driving the abrupt closure. They literally don't care what problems will and have already occurred so long as it doesn't affect the wallet anymore than it already has.

In all fairness St Mary’s was losing millions per month to keep open while the other two hospitals were and are in the Black.
