Jones, who's rarely called Howard by the popular nickname he earned as a small child...said his coaching staff has challenged Howard.

"We're pushing him in everything," the coach said, "and I think Alton has so much skill and so much ability, but again it's a level of consistency day in and day out. That's what makes good players, and before you can be good you have to be average. Before you can be great, you have to be good.

"It's nothing more than a work ethic each and every day, and he understands that, but we're really stressing a high level of consistency with him."

Has he put on some muscle since last season ? He seemed easy to tackle on alot of plays - then again the play calling was horrendous anyway.

he didn't have a chance last year. the dl and lbs seem to know when he was getting the ball. it was like they were in the huddle with our off.

I agree with above to some extent,BUT, you can't blame our previous coaching staff for EVERYTHING, for crying out loud!! When a playmaker has the ball IN THEIR HANDS they need to occasionally make a play using their own talent. They need to make it happen.
The coaches gave you the ball, now use your talent to get the job done.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't have a fumbling problem when he got the ball last year did he? Or is this just a PR problem?

I don't recall him coughing it up either, just not making anything happen when he had an opportunity. CBJ seems to like him a lot and hopefully he will have a breakout year playing at the slot position where he can play in space. :td:

Pig will get a TON of chances to make game changing plays. This new system that CBJ installs allows several options for big plays....just need a qb that can make those quick decisions mentall and physically.....Dobbs to pig???? yikes i like the sound of that

Pig barely got the ball last yr....had a TD catch, ball threw to him against bama but bray was a little late and got picked, and the wildcat where everyone knew he was going to run it and got hit in the backfield except for the TD pass he threw

I have a feeling Pig is going to blow up this year. Sounds like this O is perfect for his skill set.
Seems the entire O may have a bumpy road considering a new QB, new WR/TE, loss? of Lane, and entirely new scheme. But, I see Pig Howard making some sick plays in space. That kids an athlete.

My bad. I should've quoted what I was replying to.

I like Pig too. I was replying to someone saying that playmakers have to do something when they have the ball in their hands and I was basically saying its hard for a "playmaker" per se to do something when they touch the ball like 8 times all year and are getting hit in the backfield half of those times

I love all of the guys that have chosen to wear Orange and represent Tennessee on the football field, but I've got to admit that Howard is one of the ones that I'm the most excited to see this year. Other than this article, I really don't have any reason other than I felt like he didn't really get utilized as much as he should have last season. When he ran the wildcat, it always seemed like a garbage play - too gimmicky and too predictable to be effective. Now, I can't wait to see him get put into positions to make some game changing plays. Let's go, Pig!!!!!

Croom is the other guy on offense (outside of the QBs) that I am really fired up to see take the field. I just hope he doesn't get hampered by injuries.

he had a nice yr for a freshman with limited practice due to injury. He did fumble inside the 10 yd line, on what would have been a nice play. His number will get called a ton and they have to get the ball security issues fixed or it could be disaster

I've rehashed all that. Not gonna do it again. I'm not even going to go through the WHO part because that person is still apart of the AD

However if it makes you feel better about yourself, by all means, continue.

Uh-huh.
