New Tennessee men’s basketball coach Cuonzo Martin said he’s on board with the Pilot Rocky Top League continuing this summer.
“They had a summer league in Springfield (Missouri), and I think it’s a great way for the players to get exposure and interaction with the fans,’’ Martin said. “It breaks the monotony of the guys playing against each other.
“I understand that a lot of former Tennessee players who are playing professionally come back and play in the league and help our guys, and that’s a good thing, too.’’
“Any summer league, Chicago, New York, L.A., they’re all about offense,’’ Martin said. “That’s just the way it’s always been and always will be.
“Here’s the deal: As a coach, you lean on them year around with defensive drills they have to do in practice,’’ he said. “The summer league gives them a chance to let their hair down and have some fun with their basketball. It’s healthy, and it allows them to improve some facets of their game.’’
