didn't see a thread where we could discuss the games. if there is another, mods can delete or merge..

That being said, I caught the first two games last night. Here's my thoughts on our guys that I watched..

Yemi M-Regardless of what people seem to think of this guy, I cannot understand why he has a scholarship here. I know it was just a RTL game, but still.. players have a chance to make some noise. Maybe he's on the roster for defense or rebounding.. his offensive game is dismal at best.

Jordan McRae-didn't seem to be going all out, had a few nice moves but was pretty inconsistent. Had a nice reverse jam at games end.. kid has some UPS.

Q Chievous- this is a kid I'm excited about. Great elevation and form on jump shots. Very aggressive, hit a few 3's in a row at one point.

As far as former Vols, Goins played well (kid has ups too), Tatum played average (expected), Prince didn't do much, and Chism seemed to have really lost some weight. Showed some nice moves going to the basket, and kept jawing back and forth with Brandon Lopez for some reason.

As far as other players that showed out.. JP Primm looked really nice, as well as the kid now at ETSU from Carter High School. Believe he red shirted. Had a few dunks with his head above the rim (in pregame) and has a beautiful jump shot. Would look good in orange. Also, a guy who formerly played at Old Dominion looked good. Can't remember his name though. If you were there for game 3 I'd love to hear about it.

Shoutout to JMoore. Saw you up in the stands. I was sitting next to B.T. (@2pairtate) for the majority of the games. Ill introduce myself next time.

Would love to see some other volnation folk out there too!!!

Didn't Yemi have an 18+ point game last season? Haven't been able to watch him play, but I thought he was on the roster mostly for defense.

Mak's not the kind of player that will shine in RTL which is offense oriented.
Mak had a pretty good first season considering he was a freshman that saw limited playing time in HS.
His PERs on defense for rebounding and blocked shots were better than both Stokes and Maymon.
Once he learns his role and gets a couple of seasons of strength training he'll be a valuable back up in the front court.

Yemi was recruited primarily because of his defense and rebounding, the 18 points were against the Citadel. I have been saying for a while now that Q has the opportunity to make some noise, and I believe he will do so this season. I agree with the OP Wayne looks really slimed down now.

Some guys are just role players. Yemi will be a defensive presence, a willing rebounder and one of the hardest workers on the team. His offense may come along or it may not, but a 6'9" that plays good defense, knows his role, and hustles is always welcome. Besides he will always be good in my book for clothes-lining the Vandy guy last year.

I missed Wednesdays games so I'm glad Lu provided a summary on chievous. That's 2 games in a row he has shown a sweet shot, that's very good news.

The more I see from him the more excited I get. He reminds me of Richardson, but bigger stronger and a much better offensive game, and good outside shot.

it was Lester Wilson. MAN kid can get up, and has a wonderful shot. He'll def make some loud noise at ETSU. They got a steal. Apparently he's really bulked up too.

I had hoped UT would offer him when he was coming out of carter, always was pretty impressed by him. Atleast a walk on spot with a chance to earn a scholarship, maybe they did and i missed it.

well if ETSU is on the schedule next year, you better believe we'll know who he is then. this kid was dunking like Westbrook. for real. throwing it down through the net, all nasty like.

Swiper had over 40 in some games and Steven pearl scored 30.

That's all you need to know about rtl basketball.

I like Lester, but there's a reason he's at ESTU and not UT.

well all I know the kids must have a different agenda this year. there's a lot of smack talking and in your face defense. kids are playing hard, may not have been the case in past years, but they are really bringing it from what I saw.

..care to share?

I was thinking the same thing. It could be a result of how they were required to play last year, and are carrying that into pickup games like this. That first night I know Richardson and McRae were hounding each other, and each one blocked the others shot more than once.

He could have walked on to UT, and maybe gotten some decent minutes by his junior or senior season. He has a much better opportunity at ETSU.
