Go to the strip, anything you can think of there. Primantis is good, the one on the square by the PPG building has good atmosphere. Church Brew Works is a brewery/pizzeria in an old catholic cathedral. Hofbrauhaus is sort of a chain but a great place to check out. Basically a massive German beer hall on the river. There’s lots of hole in the wall places to eat there, you’d be hard pressed to find a bad one.
Check out Max's Allegheny Tavern on Suismon Street, north of the Allegheny River. Phenomenal German food, a nice neighborhood atmosphere, and a good beer selection as well. As mentioned, Church Brew Works is solid too, and the building itself (an old church) is interesting as well.
Also forgot to add, it’s called Fatheads because the sandwiches are huge, supposed to be as “big as your head”. Also, the wings there are massive. It’s not ordering a dozen or maybe even a half dozen, they are massive per wing so I think the # you get is scaled down.
We had a good visit ... was pleasantly surprised with this city. I enjoyed Huszar's Hungarian up on the north side of downtown, and the Old Harmony Inn up near Zelianople to the north. Also the Phipps Conservatory, but I'm a plants nerd. Thanks for the input, folks.
