I am placing the blame for the current condition of my beloved UT football team in the athletic department.

I put about 60% on Hamilton. He was a fool. The way he handled the Fulmer situation bordered on insanity. The way he handled the departure of Kiffin was beyond insane. He had no plan at all. He was left in the wind where he deserved to swing at the end of the rope. The problem is that he took the team with him on that rope.

I put about 40% on Hart. He has not been a leader at any point. While I realize that there may be things going down behind the scene (there certainly should be!), he has not sent even a smoke signal out. That has left the staff in a lame-duck situation that everybody sees but they are trapped in it. The players cannot concentrate on a game when every time they step out to even go to class they are buried with questions about the coaching situation. Everything they have done is under a microscope regarding the coaches.

I believe (BELIEVE) that Dooley was told that he will be released at the end of the season. He knows. He is playing the party line because Hart asked him to keep quiet until he was able to make an announcement. He did so. He may have even told the players. I don't know. However, it is an untenable position to put Dooley in that role.

Clearly, Hart does not want the media circus that surrounded the hiring of Dooley. He hopes to avoid reports of planes and smoke filled rooms. There should be no announcement of a potential coach turning it down. There should be 1 announcement ... "The next head coach is ..." Yet, it is well past time to allow Dooley some dignity. Announce he is gone. Otherwise, announce that he is not going and let the chips fall where they may.

If Hart doesn't act, the blame will start to shift from Hamilton to him in bigger chunks.

I don't understand the concept where fans believe that Dooley being fired anywhere after the Miss St game would put us anywhere except exactly where we are now. The defense would still be horrid and we would still have inconsistent play calling. So to say that firing Dooley three weeks ago would have done anything beneficial to this team just doesn't have any evidence to support it, because they would still have the same staff that tanked it this year.

Overall, Hart will earn his reputation when he picks his next coach and no sooner.

No, there is no evidence to support it. Neither is there evidence to disprove it. It didn't happen. It is my BELIEF that an announcement earlier would have removed a lot of pressure from the players. Would it have been a solution? I don't know. It would not have been worse and may well have been better.
