We have a fortunate/unfortunate predicament at QB.
Both of these are great kids, great talents, but they're being put in a situation by the coaching staff, that I'm not sure anyone could succeed in.
They are constantly under undue pressure from the stand point of losing their job. No one can perform in such a mentally charged situation as this.
If we're going to play 2 QBs, this is the ONLY way to do it.
Give one a start one game and stay with him, sink or swim. This way, the kid knows, "This is my game, my game to win or lose. There'll be no pressure if I throw a pick, miss an assignment, manage the clock poorly on a drive. It's my job this game and I'm not worried about Rick/Erik coming in taking my job for THIS game."
The way we're doing it is playing hugely upon their psyches.
A better solution: Choose one as the starter and sink or swim with him. This way he gets most of the snaps with the 1st team, he develops a rapport, a rhythm, and continuity with the team.
Do one of the other, but for God's sake, stop with all the pulling of the QBs when they don't do just right.
I'm beginning to wonder if the biggest mistake that we might have ever made on the Hill, coaching wise, was pulling Erik in favor of Rick for the 3rd series of downs in the UAB game. Erik looked sharp.
We'll never know IF that caused him to begin to flop. What if he'd have gotten the whole game and stayed sharp. We'd have beaten UAB badly and he'd have had great confidence for the rest of the season.
IF Frogs had WINGS they wouldN'T BumP their BUtTTs.
