When I think of certain coaches I think of players who in large measure created the reputation they have/had as winners.

Travis Ford...James Anderson
Jeff Capel...Blake Griffin
Frank Martin....Michael Beasley

Sean Miller built a great program at Xavier, and did strong work with them in the NCAAs. He then came to Arizona and back to back had incredible recruiting classes.
If Derrick Williams carries Arizona even deeper than the Elite 8 on his way to the NBA, Sean Miller will not have built his reputation off one run from a great player.

What coaches can you think of who built their reputation off one player or two?

BTW, I think if Tobias is convinced to stay (grades below a lottery pick) and Scotty sees that it is Turkey for him unless he dedicates himself like a mad man in the offseason, that the coach of TN could be stepping into a position that gives him a good deal of talent in year 1, followed by growing pains in year 2.

Tobias is most likely not going to return. I don't think he liked playing with our team too much... which makes me a sad man but truth hurts sometimes

I agree.. Mike Hamilton has done nothing good for us the whole time he has been in the program besides hire Dooley.. and that wasn't even his first choice

My goodness guys, let's get away from the fire MH posts. We need a bb call first and foremost. We don't need to further the sentiment that the department is in complete and utter disarray.

Knute Rockne : George Gipp
Pop Warner : Jim Thorpe
Robert Neyland : Hank Lauricella
John Wooden : Lew Alcindor/Bill Walton
Press Maravich : Pete Maravich
Ray Mears : Ernie Grunfeld/Bernard King
Bruce Pearl : Chris Lofton/Dane Bradshaw
the list goes on and on...

NO....he hired Bruce Pearl and he created a great thing....but BP's ego thought it had become above the law and bigger than the university....making him and his staff the Untouchables in a way....when he was really becoming Al Capone and his mob.

If MH is fired, it does not need to be today! All the NCAA violations occurred on his watch by coaching staffs that he hired!!! He needs to stay at least until June when we go before the infractions committee. When our punishment is handed down from the NCAA who do you want sitting there to get squashed by that hammer?!?!? Mike Hamilton or a new AD? MH is gone, UT is just waiting for the right time.
It will be the same scenario we saw play out at USC. But with a less severe punishment

If Tobias and Scotty do leave it's not like we made the final four this year, we barely got in the tourney.

When you look at the maturation of Scotty and Tobias, I think Scotty has found his game and Tobias showed flashes at the end of the year to really complement what Scotty can accomplish. Tobias became a beast on the inside at the end and could still step out and hit an occassional three. Add a year on Golden, Hall (who I understand was plaqued by injury most of the year) along with Maymon and the cupboard could be full for the next hire. Depends on whether Scotty and Tobias return. Matter fact everything Pearl built Tennessee into hinges on the next hire and his ability to keep these guys in the fold.

4. Travis Ford
Same high school as another TN great, Ford grew up in the SEC. He is 40, would be 41 when we brought him in. Would he leave us for KY? I do not think he would if they are radioactive due to problems with the NCAA that make ours look minor, but I also think that being the coach at UK would be his dream job like USC was for Kiffin. If we paid him plenty he would stay here and build a strong legacy.
The guy is an aces recruiter. We would have to pay OSU $3 million. Thanks to T Boone, OSU is paying Ford pretty well.

That was literally this season...what gives?

And also, Michael Beasley? Was that some kind of joke?

Frank Martin has done pretty well since Beasley's departure. Of course, in large part that is due to the will of Pullen.
