Risk of foreclosure dips, but remains elevated - Yahoo! Finance=

Both quotes are from the linked article:

"The Mortgage Bankers Association said Thursday 8.2 percent of homeowners missed at least one mortgage payment in the October-December quarter."

"Typically, the percentage of seriously delinquent borrowers -- those more than 90 days behind on their mortgages or in foreclosure -- is just above 1 percent. In the fourth quarter, that figure was 8.57 percent."

So let me get this straight. In the 4th quarter, 8.2 percent of homeowners missed at least one mortgage payment, but 8.57 percent of homeowners were seriously delinquent (more than 90 days behind on their mortgages or in foreclosure). I love integrity with the numbers. Just imagine the hocus pocus they can use if you bothered to read more than one single article.

I assume they are saying that there are several people that got behind on their mortgages before the October-December quarter, but some of those people were somehow able to not miss any payments during the October-December quarter.

In other words, just because you didn't miss a payment during that time period, that doesn't mean that you are not still behind on your mortgage payments.

Just a guess...
