Sorry if this is covered in another thread. Moderators feel free to merge if so.

My question is essentially whether the committee will allow three SEC teams into the playoffs. I highly doubt it.

So, if UT loses to UGA on Saturday (hoping for the best but.....), and assume Bama wins out....

UGA and Bama in the SEC championship. Won't we have to be praying that UGA beats Bama in the SEC championship? If it's the other way around, Bama has one loss and is in the playoffs. UGA has one loss, and is in?? Maybe this depends on how close the game is. If Bama blows UGA out, perhaps Vols would leapfrog UGA in the rankings? But my fear is that Bama and UGA both get in, and the committee is not going to put 3 SEC teams in the playoff. So the Vols would be out under that scenario.

Those of you who have thought more about this please comment.

I agree with you on SEC will not put 3 SEC teams with one loss each into Playoffs. So if UGA beats us and Bama beats UGA in SEC game, I think committee might just leave us out. In a three way tie with each team with 1 loss against another team in tie, they'll likely pick the SEC CG teams. Unless of course Bama demolishes UGA etc ...

For that to happen, there would just have to be no other options IMO. That being said, it could absolutely happen. Let's say we beat Georgia, then lose in the SECC to Alabama.

Let's also say that all the Pac-12 teams have 2+ losses and Clemson loses somewhere along the way. Let's also go ahead and say Ohio State beats Michigan and ends up 13-0. Oh, the Big12... everyone in there will probably have 2+ losses by the end, but even if TCU only has 1 loss, would anyone really put them over one of the 3 SEC teams? I doubt it.

So you have no Group of 5 team undefeated and no Pac12 team in the picture.

You would have Ohio State at #1 as a lock. Alabama at 12-1 would be a lock. Tennessee at 12-1 would be a lock. The 4th spot would be between TCU, Michigan, Clemson, and Georgia. Georgia would have a better win than any of those other teams (assuming Oregon doesn't fold). So, yes, I think it could happen, but there couldn't be more than 1 undefeated team outside the conference.

TN beat Bama, GA beats TN, then Bama beats GA that leaves (3) 11-1 SEC teams. I think in a 3-way everyone gets screwed. They can't put all 3 of us in so the committee leaves all 3 SEC teams out and the Championship goes to The Ohio St because they are the media darling even though they have played nobody except Mich and Penn St

ESPN's playoff predictor has UT with a 66% chance to make the playoffs with a loss this week.

I'd say that is dead on

I think Bama has to lose again. We lose to UGA, Bama beats UGA in the Championship game UT is the odd man out.. Way too many teams after that would have to lose, some probably twice and it's not likely to happen.

We beat UGA we are in
We lose to uga ( uga wins sec ) we make it
We lose to uga ( Bama win sec) no chance
I don’t think tcu wins out but if they do they are in over us with one loss to uga.
If we beat uga on Saturday buy your tickets for the natty

Not a chance this year. Too many other teams in position to be part of the playoffs.

Even two SEC teams won't happen if Clemson, Ohio State or Michigan, and TCU happen to win out.

Clemson and TCU won't win out. OSU and Mich play each other. Clemson and TCU each have at least 3 very losable games.

UGA will beat Bama because Bama does not have the bodies to stretch the field. Thats how they beat them last year. Bama doesn't have an elite WR this year, and didn't have one in the championship game once theirs got hurt.

This is what I'm thinking as well. We have control of our own destiny, need to take advantage of that and handle business against UGA. Otherwise, we'll be dependent on them beating Bama in the SECCG.

Considering the possibility of 3 SEC teams getting in... although we have a better resume it's hard to imagine the committee selecting a 3rd place SEC team above any Power 5 1-loss champion. They'll want some conference diversity represented in the playoffs.

They could win out and that has to be considered if people want to think that losing this weekend is a-okay to get us in the playoffs.
