That race today was pathetic. I went to the mall with my wife in the middle of it, came back 30 min later, and felt like I didn't miss anything. Whoever thought up the idea to pave one groove in the middle of the track in turn 3 ought to be fired. Gee, I wonder where all the cars will run if we pave one groove?? Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson and after the race Dale Jr. all criticized the track and it's deserved. The place only deserves one race and that one needs to be cut to 400 miles. This junk car has a lot to do with the racing, but the track didn't help.

The best race of the weekend was the IRL race at Texas.

The track had come up in that one section thru 2 and 3. It makes a lot more sense to fix one strip than to repave the whole thing, especially at a track that big.

Read where Bruton Smith wants to buy it but the family owners do not want to sell. Said they would pass it to their grandchildren.

I bet Smith would reconfigure it and make it more fan friendly. I think they should 'doze it.

I think he said he would buy it, close it down, and move the dates to his other tracks. Could be wrong, but I think that's what the deal was. But,like you said, they aren't selling anyway.

They didn't have to pave the entire track, just pave that turn, all grooves. Just paving one little strip invites bad racing.

that's the thing. it started right after turn 2 and ran all the way into and through turn 3. it was a big strip of asphalt. i can't say as i blame them.

to do a major job like you were suggesting takes a lot of time. who knows when they discovered the problem and how much time they had to get the job done.

I saw it live twice. The first one was like the one Saturday night - pure wheel to wheel insanity at crazy speeds. The second only had one yellow (early in the race) and as a result, the field spread out - boring.

Nothing beats the intensity of the IRL at Texas

i've seen them at other 1.5 miles-Atlanta and Charlotte

was at the race in 1999 that the spectators were killed at in Charlotte. that ended visits to those tracks.
