VN, i usually listen to the Swain Event when I'm driving to class (1 hr. commute), doing cardio, or mowing the grass. I'm getting tired of sports radio when I could be listening to something more knowledgable. Periodically, I'll give an audiobook a try (fiction, usually), but I can't seem to stay focused on any of the audiobooks. Does anyone else have this problem? Do you guys have any podcasts that you recommend?

Depends on your interests. I listen to a couple of finance podcasts from CNBC. And I've been playing Madden Ultmate Team this year so there's a weekly Madden podcast I listen to. I also listen to some other news and current events stuff.

Audiobooks for me depend more on the reader than the book itself. Find one you like and look into what else they have recorded. If you want to listen to some classics (public domain), Librivox is essentially the Project Gutenberg of audiobooks.

MY podcasts are split pretty evenly between comedy/entertainment and education. How Stuff Works and Stuff You Missed in History Class release a couple episodes a week and have a large backlog to choose from. Dan Carlin's Hardcore History and Common Sense are two of my favorites, but aren't released very often.

All the podcasts i listen to have to do with fantasy football or wrestling. I've been looking for more that interest me but never have any luck.

OP, I almost forgot, ignore recommendations from anyone who listens to wresting podcasts.

Oh yeah, I do want to plug zjcvols and 005's VolNation Power T Talk podcast, even if they haven't made any new ones in a long time. They're pretty good when they actually do them.

Thanks for the input, gentlemen.

I enjoy listening to current events and fantasy football podcasts. I'm not too impressed with Matthew Berry's podcasts ever since he changed co-hosts. I'm still looking for a solid, reasonably un-biased news podcast. For the person that recommended history podcasts, I'm certainly interested in those. I totally agree on the importance of the narrator when it comes to audiobooks. I've yet to find one that keeps my attention. Perhaps, I just need to find the right narrator.

Mike Duncan has an epic 179 part History of Rome podcast, and is currently working on his Revolutions series, in which he's covered the English Civil War, American and French Revolutions, and is currently doing the Haitian Revolution. Twelve Byzantine Rulers, Norman Centuries, and Hannibal and the Punic Wars are some of the "classic" history podcasts, but there's plenty of stuff out there, especially if you search online instead of through your podcast player.

Depending on the guest I like WTF with Marc Marron and the Nerdist.

Star Talk with Neil Degrass Tysons is usually very interesting.

99% Invisible has interesting stories but the host can put you to sleep. Be careful on that commute. LOL.

You really can't go wrong with TED talks (audio).

I listen to a Walking Dead post show podcast.

Aside from podcasts the NPR ONE app is really good. It's kinda like the Pandora of the NPR current and archived shows as well as throwing in a news update between shows.

I like the Nerdist a lot. Where else are you going to hear Josh Brolin talk about making the Goonies?

It gets old after a while, but the Adam Carolla podcast is good.

I'll have to check out Star Talk.

Cashing In With T.J. Miller is good, if you can put up with the co-host.
I Am Rapaport
Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast
Serial

If you're into history at all, I recommend Dan Carlins Hardcore History. Doesn't come out often but they're very interesting and cover a fairly wide range of topics. Typical episode is about three hours long.

Bill Burr is great if you like comedy.

yeah, why is that?? I'll listen to him then just for no reason it gets old and boring. Not him or his guest - just gets old.

I typically just listen on Thursdays to play Rotten Tomatoes with some friends. Rarely listen besides that unless Shatner or someone like that is the guest. The schtick just gets old.
