Point guard

Our point guard tonight (Jordan Walker) had 10 assists, 6 points, 2 rebounds, and a steal against only two turnovers. What needs to be done to be an effective point guard that wasn't done by Jordan Walker tonight in your view?

Preach it. Apparently, Hbg did not watch the same game we watched. The numbers do not lie. Great game Jordan W.

I think it was more about what she didn’t do. She didn’t have a good defensive day. She slowed down momentum. Her missed fast break lay up that turned into an and 1 on the other end. Statistically she had a good game…but it certainly didn’t pass the eye test.

Look on the bright side: the girls know how to apply makeup & style hair.
What does that mean? How is that relevant?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it means they'd be better players if they did not apply makeup or style their hair. We hear that all the time. Female players immediately lose "toughness" points for tending to appearance, bc obviously they can't do both, right? Anyone tell Austin or Boston that? Imagine the players they'd be without the elaborate hair and Austin's pink lipstick!

Do you deduct tough points for the guys who sport some pretty intricate hairdos?

It's a stupid and sexist notion that talent and desire are reduced through oversized eyelashes. 1958 called, it wants its brain back.

Horston was our point guard, best rebounder, and best distributor. Next year Powell will take some or most of those duties away. She is a far better point guard than Walker and at this time in their careers Miles. I really believe Powell will be the starting point guard and Miles the backup. I think Walker will spend most of her time at the two guard position. I think Jordan may play more three four depending on who else joins the team. Also add that Jordan is our best defender and she enhances Key's role by what she does.

Horston was our point guard
She wasn't. She helped out there some, but Horston only broke out of her shell when she was relieved of those responsibilities. IMO JH should be a 3-4, should stay far away from PG which was the source of so much of her earlier frustrations.

Hopefully next year we'll have a setup like the men currently do, with Powell primary PG but Miles and Walker rotating through backup PG and 2, like Chandler and Zeigler do.

She wasn't until the game was on the line then she brought it up and also set the plays in motion. She was willing to shoot the open shot instead of forcing the pass. She could get in the paint and score and teams were one and done on their shot attempts because she would get the rebound. People couldn't catch her passes but that is another situation.

Most of Walker points came late and the turning point in 3rd was she got the turnover missed the layup and Howard went down the court for and 1 and third foul on key with 7mns in 3rd and down by 1. Chance to take the lead turned into 9 point lead for cats shortly after. Walker gives this team everything she has. To me the most glaring part was there shooting guard made 4 3s and attacked basket and Tess made 1 3 and couldn't put pressure on D at all. Have a full week off to practice and rest. In CHRIST Alone

Agree to disagree. JH has neither the outside shot, decision making nor handle to be PG and is way too good closer to the basket. PG wastes her vast talent and pretty nearly ruined her. But it's moot, Powell, Walker, Miles and Wynn will be our guards.

No problem she is better than the two we have now at the position. I think Powell has all the ability to be the full time at the position. Right now I'd rather have Horston than Walker making the half court decisions.

We need at least some of our guards to become consistent scoring threats. Not necessarily leading scorers, but at least enough to keep defenses honest and provide some points when open. This out-of-control driving the lane or trying to fling up layups over shot-blockers needs to stop.

What we need is Horston back. With her we would now have two more games in the W column and playing SC for the championship

I tend to agree with you, but I think for from a different view point. We have for the most part covered her offensive output. What I think we miss most is her aggressive defense and long reach getting rebounds. As to aggressive, we need here influence badly.

^^^^^this, not to mention the rest of the season, my post wasn’t just in regards to the game against Kentucky. Walker is the weakest guard we have, the other two are weak too.
