It's no secret that we have missed a lot of opportunities this season. It's also no secret that the refs haven't helped us with their wrong-calls/non-calls. This thread will be my best attempt at compiling the major things this season that SHOULD or EASILY could have gone our way, that, if they did, we'd be having a lot different conversation. And, hopefully, I can illustrate this team's true potential, if we fully play up to it.

A couple disclaimers: If it is not obvious how many points we would have gotten on a drive, I will estimate. For example, if there's no conclusive proof we would have scored, but we'd at least have had a chip-shot field goal, then I'll put our points at 5. If we miss an obvious TD, we missed 7. If we were dominating a drive and MOST LIKELY would have scored a TD, I may award 6 or 7. If we knocked ourselves out of field goal range, I'll probably say 2 or 3 based on how easy the FG would have been.

It’s very hard to equate mistakes that happen on the other side of the 50 to missed points. This only really takes into account the most painfully obvious ones. Execution in general has cost us even more points, in my opinion.

Edit: which is both scary, but also potentially promising.

I wonder if you did this same exercise for Bama if they would have similar "misses"

Updated through South Carolina Game.

Noticed that the one missed PBU/INT by Tamarion McDonald was probably a 6-point swing for us too. Miltons INTs cost us probably 6 points.

There you go, Vols fans. We have left 73 points on the field this year. A lot of it was preventable.

A&M was our worst game.

We would be averaging allowing exactly 13 points per game if our preventable defensive mistakes were avoided.

Don’t know if I agree entirely with the points awarded but yeah we definitely have shot ourselves in the foot a lot this season. And there’s plenty of other gafs/penalties/drops you didn’t put that have contributed to our less than full potential showing this far.

Yeah, these are only really those that kicked us out of FG range or that killed drives in which we were actually making good progress.

I think we opted to go for a FG against FL toward the end of the second half or maybe in the 3rd quarter that made a difference in how we had to play at the end of the game. We could have kicked a FG when we got close there at the end and had a LOT of time to defend while our D was reeling and get the ball back to try to take it in for a TD to win the game. Instead we needed more.
