political question about the KKK

I'm reading a little about the KKK and there is something I don't understand. It says they are a far right wing organization but it also says one of their main targets of terrorism was republicans. This doesn't make sense. Does it? Also it says they didn't like Catholics, why in the world didn't they like Catholics?

Thanks for any good input. Maybe someone can clear this up or explain it. It just doesn't make much since to me but I'm interested in it.

IIRC, they wanted all Republicans to be as far right as them so they used scare tactics and targeted those that weren't.

Oh ok. But if you read it says they wanted white democrats to have power. Why would a far right wing organization want democrats to have power?

From my understanding, the Republican party used to be Democrats and vice versa. Has evolved a bit over the years.

Some would argue that welfare is a modern form of slavery, and IMO, the D's use welfare programs as a carrot.

The problem is you're focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

When the KKK was founded the Republican party controlled the country. Lincoln was a republican and had just finished winning the war of northern aggression. All southerners hated the reps at the time.

KKK was an all protestant group. They hated all other religious groups. Jews, Muslims, Catholics, etc.

I would think that most in Mississippi could give an explanation and full history of the KKK.

Because history has been re-written.

In reality it was the Republicans (led by rep president Lincoln) who freed the slaves.

It was also the democrats (Wallace) who fought so hard to keep segregation.

The facts are most people think the democrats are for helping out the minorities.

It's not true.

They're good at keeping the minorities down so they need government help through food stamps and social programs.

Democrats are all about the people needing the government.

Pretty much what was said before. The Republican Party at the formation of the KKK was the party of Lincoln, the North, and Emancipation. The Democratic Party was the party of the South, and that didn't completely turn around until the 1980's. You'll still find quite a few Democrats in the South who have nothing in common with the national Democratic party, but vote Democrat because of the Great Depression, southern ties of the Democratic party, or because they perceive the Democratic party to be the party of the working man.

People tend to forget that it was the Republican controlled Senate and House that passed civil rights legislation in the 60's and it was the Democrats in control in the South who wanted to keep segregation in place. Fun fact is that MLK was a Republican.

Ha, for real? I would have never guessed this. One of my good friends is an african american, he is always dissin' republicans. I can't wait to tell him this. Hope you're right.
