The contracts need to have protections for the university. Like, if you do not perform at a certain level you don't receive as much compensation. It's nothing but a business now, plain and simple, and this is free agency.
Can Heupel find someone else, or already have someone on hand, that he thinks can do the job?
If the answer is yes, then let him walk. Thank you for your services and good luck at USC or UCLA or Slippery Rock or wherever. If not, you have to hold your nose and pay him.
If the Vols give him what he wants now and he is going through the motions during the upcoming season or decides he wants to sit and ask for more.......then what?
I liked Cam Ward all last season until he quit on his team. Dude just freaking literally quit on his team at half time during Miami's bowl game. I immediately soured on Cam. Couldn't believe that guy just hung up his cleats in front of his teammates, the world on TV with a straight face. What's even worse is that some people thought it was okay and justifiable. When you quit on your own team, you've lost me and I don't care who you are.......
