After trying to sort thru the merged thread to see everyone's opinion, I pose this question as a poll:
Given that the culture of Penn State was a "football first atmosphere" (per NCAA ruling), but that the entirety of this problem was brought about by 4 or 5 people (administration and coaches) and that the problems had nothing to do with players, ball boys, maintenance, or ground crew, or whatever, should the NCAA have been involved with this at all?
I've seen solid arguments for both, but I thought it would be interesting to see everyone's thoughts in a more organized way.
Personally, I think that the NCAA did what they needed to do. IMO, this was a criminal conspiracy, and I feel like if the appropriate measures were taken beforehand, then Paterno, Sandusky, and the administrators involved would have been removed from their posts and things would have been different from then on, and several children would never have had to deal with what happened. Therefore, allowing the program to continue as it did simply promoted an atmosphere of "if no one knows, it never happened." You can't just let "leadership" like that stay in place, which is just what PSU administration did.
Anyway, just wanted everyone's opinions. Try to stay on topic. I know how we (VN as a whole) can get. eace2:
