I think Texas winning out is best case scenario for Tennessee. If they beat A&M it eliminates them and a 3 loss UGA team should fall below us to give us a home game.

IMO worst case scenario is A&M winning the SEC giving them an automatic bid and UT hoping they let us in with 2 losses vs a UGA team with their 3rd loss coming in the championship game or a Texas team with 2 losses.

Barring a blowout, I don't see UGA dropping below us with a loss in SECC game. That would not be fair is my $.02, and my guess is the committee would see it that way also.

A Texas team with 2 regular season losses and no ranked wins should fall behind Tennessee. Should, but might not.

A Texas with 1 regular season loss and 1 loss in the SECCG is even more unlikely to drop behind the Vols.

The Longhorns couldn’t beat UGA in Austin, so I’m not confident they’d fare better in Atlanta.

A 3-loss Georgia with 1 being in the SECCG also wouldn’t necessarily fall behind Tennessee.

How this committee will handle the CCGs losers is unknown, with the exception that the BIGCCG loser will be the 5th seed.

Our best bet at a home playoff game is a Texas loss to Aggie and then Georgia defeating A&M.

The only one that matters is the championship game. Georgia needs to win it. If they play Texas, we should be in front. If they play A&M, then Texas already has a second loss and still should be behind us. A&M's only path is to win both. That is unlikely.

Don't overestimate this committee ability to get things right. I am not sure if Texas loses they drop below us they should but there is that mindset that they are Texas and they are better than us even though their schedule was easy and have no signature wins. If Ga loses sec cham game not sure they drop below us committee may say they are not penalizing losers of conference title games and they beat us head to head.

Hard to say their schedule was easy when we played same teams except we played Bama at home and they played A&M on the road, plus a trip to the Big House trumps anything we played OOC.

Texas win.

aTm win and even at 9-3, in the eyes of the committee they could jump us in the polls and leave us out of the CFP.
Their only bad loss was USCe.
A&M isn’t going to jump from #20 to #7 just because they win a home game vs a team who hasn’t beaten a ranked team all year. I could see them rising to #12 or #13 going into the SECCG, but once they get pounded by Georgia that will take care of that.

We need A&M to dispatch the Longhorns on Saturday. That is best for us.

If Texas wins and Tenn beats Vandy, Tenn is in, full stop.

If A&M wins, they are in with a win in the SECCG,
Tex is in.
UGA is in
Tenn is likely in under any scenario but seeding will be higher with a Tex win.

Imo, A&M should be favored in this game. Texas has only played in 2 SEC venues outside of Austin. (Arky and Vandy) At A&M in the rivalry revival is going to be an animal they haven't come close to seeing this season.

A&M because if Texas wins and then Georgia beats Texas, we probably still are behind both. Also Texas will drop more in the rankings if they lose to A&M verses losing to Georgia.

And if Texas beats both A&M and Georgia, there is no guarantee that Georgia will fall below us and in some strange sequence of events we may end up having to travel to Athens.

A&M will NOT jump into the top 12 by beating Texas - the loss to Auburn eliminated that.

My prediction is that A&M wins big and drops Texas behind us. But then we will need Georgia to take care of them. Will Kirby have them up for the game?
I agree with you on A&M/Texas, just not sure if A&M wins big. As for Georgia, in what world would anyone think Kirby wouldn't have them up for the game? It is for the SEC Championship, a first round bye after having to play an extra game, and eliminates any subjectivity as to their spot in the playoffs.

In almost any scenario where A&M beats Texas it probably kills any Bama chance of CFP barring multiple upsets Saturday REGARDLESS of how much ESPN wills Bama into CFP.
I totally agree with this take. I think many people here are viewing the potential for A&M winning the SECCG from the wrong spectrum. In the highly unlikely scenario that actually happened, we are not dropping 3-4 spots and getting knocked out of the playoffs. In that scenario, Georgia would have to sweat it out a little more on selection day but the most likely result would be the SEC gets four teams in, none of whom are Alabama.

Aside from how it benefits Tennessee, an A&M win is just more interesting. They’ll be playing for their playoff lives in the SECCG, and teams like Indiana and SMU would be sweating bullets. Plus, it keeps Texas from possibly winning the conference in their 1st season.

Tennessee is in with a win on Saturday no matter what else happens. A Texas loss gives us more likely potential to host.

Even if A&M somehow beat Texas and then Georgia to steal a spot, we go back to where we are now—playing on the road in round 1.

I said A&M. Texas doesn’t have a signature win on the season, so I think they drop below us. Also, I don’t see A&M beating GA as it’s a home game for GA. If we get a little chaos this week, we could host the opening round. Can you imagine Neyland hosting a playoff game?? Place will be rocking!!

I said A&M because UGA would have a better chance of beating them in the SECCG, and I'd prefer to eliminate the possibility of Tennessee having to travl to Athens in the first round. No other potential playoff matchup concerns me.
I see what you are saying but if we do have to play in Athens , I feel better about this time. A lot of our players had never played there they are familiar with everything, that means a lot to young players. It can't be any more hostile than it was that night, and we played great 1st half. I don't feel like Beck could have as good a game as he did, that game everything fell into place even well-timed penalties kept drives alive and Vols off the field.

Shouldn’t it depend on how they play? If they lost 45-0, and all of America saw it, will we just say “oh well?” They still need to perform like an elite team to be ranked like an elite team.

Much as I hate it, the best scenario for us is if Texas rolls down the lane knocking over pins. Knock over A&M, and they're not threat. Then knock over UGa, and they could drop a spot below us.

Ain't much we can do to get Texas out of the picture, but they can help a lot to maybe sweep the others away.

And: screw Texas!

Go Vols!
