From Warren Nolan's excellent site:

Our SOS and RPI have greatly imroved to say the least. Missouri is still lowest in SEC but is getting close to top-100

The Vols have only played 2- schools within top 116 in OOC play.

Some of those who have followed college baseball need to chime in, but I wouldn't think you would want a very difficult OOC schedule since the SEC is so brutal. We probably should have played some better ones than we did. It seems it is kind of like basketball in that you want to avoid bottom RPI teams and at least play several in the top 125.

I am just a casual fan, but I would think that taking 5 of 6 over UNLV and ASU would be very favorable. What kind of record are we looking at to get a chance in the tournament?

Hope UNLV keeps winning. That should help our RPI right? I kid because I hate the RPI!

But it would look better for our non conference schedule tho I assume.

With UF, UK, Bama and LSU all remaining on our schedule, I can't imagine a scenario where we wouldn't have a good enough RPI to end up in the post season mix. More important is where we finish in the conference.

If we finish inside the top nine in the conference, we have a reasonable chance, if we don't, the chances go down, regardless of our RPI/SOS/OOC games.

The truth is we just need to focus on each game and make it to Hoover, the rest will take care of itself.

We have four games this week, all on the road and winning the series in Athens would be a huge help going forward...

Yep. Win series at home, avoid sweeps on the road. (aka play .500 in conference) This gets us into a regional. Currently we are 1 win behind that pace. It would be great to go ahead and make that one game up by winning 2 this weekend. 3 would be unbelievable.

If we fall behind that pace, we will likely be playing for our lives in Hoover. There will likely be 3 or 4 teams playing for a regional spot in the first 4 single elimination games on day one. It will make for some very exciting baseball. A 10 or 11 seed could win a couple games in Hoover and end up sending a 8 or 9 seed home and out of the NCAA tourney.

From Aaron Fitt's chat today:

Cas (Orlando): Big series win over Vanderbilt for UT this weekend. Does the quality of their team/year come down to developing a little more consistency from what seams to be a good, young core Serrano has put together?

Aaron Fitt: I was on hand for the first two games of that series, and even after Tennessee lost the Friday game, the Vols made a positive impression on me. The Saturday game wasn’t pretty, but Tennessee really battled, which was very encouraging. The pitching staff is a lot deeper than it was last year, and that team has the potential to be very offensive, as they were earlier in the season. That’s a regional-caliber club right now, with a chance to make real postseason noise in 2015. It’s hard to establish consistency in the SEC when you’re facing a top 25-level opponent just about every week—it’s not just Tennessee that’s struggling to do that. But the Vols dug deep in a must-win game Saturday and might have turned their whole season around. I’ll be writing more about Tennessee and the importance of that series in Three Strikes tomorrow morning.
