EBT here uses some sort of UPC recognition (as best I can tell) so it won't purchase things like beer or cigs. Also, there's food EBT and debit EBT, but there are restrictions on both.

Yeah in my experience they buy the groceries with the EBT card then make a separate purchase to get their beer and cigs. I wouldn't be shocked if they changed it though.

Okay, I've got a buddy that runs a corner store, I suppose he could just give me cigarettes and beer if he wanted to, I don't see what the deal is. If a manager wants to cheat their inventory, more power to them.

I had a friend of a friend who I was familiar with enough to be Facebook friends with offer her food stamps for 50¢ on the dollar because she needed to "buy cigarettes and gas". Needless to say I screen capped and emailed it in. Pretty sure nothing happened, but I was pissed.

You cant buy beer and cigarettes on EBT, or to be technical SNAP (supplemental nutritional assistance program) catchy eh? however you can buy beer and cigarettes on a EBT card on tax dollars. Different programs. Still a state welfare program.

Welfare is also available on Ebt cards, they have the option of Food or Welfare checks when they slide the card. Worked in the grocery business for a while.
