Our subpar recruiting efforts over the past few years are catching up with us. Our depth is not very good...and we are not getting the 5 stars like we used to. It's time to open up the ol checkbook Phil!:rtfm:

You might be right....but we have the worst Oline & Dline in the conference! We have no STUDS at RB....hence no running game.

i agree that our oline and dline are weak, but our rbs foster, hardesty, and foster are 2 freshman and 1 sophomore, and each one has shown flashes of being good. They just need more time to learn.

We have had good recruits come in the last several years. Player development and discipline is the major problem. Until we get better coaching from our coaches, you are going to continue to see a downward spiral.

How long did it take Jamal Lewis to learn? Darren McFadden? Adrian Peterson?

I disagree...look at our recruiting the last few years.....lousy! These are the same coaches that won a National Championship...they can coach.....we just don't have that upper echelon talent like we used to. Very mediocre.....in my opinion.

if im not mistaken our sophomore class was a top 3 signing class

last year didnt make the top 25 the year before was
around 15th its been going down. this year is very
important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!we need to be in the top
10 at least.

I think Running Back is a very, very instinct based posistion. There are things to be taught but the instinct that the good ones have can't be taught. Neither can the hardcore running asses over style that Jamal Lewis displayed.

100% correct. RBs either have or they don't. No amount of coaching is going to turn Arian Foster into Adrian Peterson.

Last year DID make the top 25, and the year before we had what some considered to be the #1 class. Our recruiting is not the problem. Unless all these recruiting sites are way off, we've been bringing in top tier talent. What the coaches have done with that talent recently is the real problem.

I would tend to agree that generally our recruiting classes have been thought of highly at the national level. Our 2005 class was consensus top 3, #1 by several. Our 2002 class, last year's seniors *ahem* was #2.

Talent development is more the problem. But on the bright side, other than this year our defense has been very solid. Now, with Cutcliffe back, we've already seen his value in the invigoration of the offense.

We need another great class, with the current coordinators, I think they can mold good recruits into a great team. It is incumbent upon our staff to land a GREAT class this year - and that 2005 class is going to be juniors next year - they have to step up.

Coker has looked pretty good when healthy, and was a top-notch recruit coming in.

Foster looked pretty good last year, although I'm not sure he is healthy now, either (he was in that -11 yard team performance against Florida.)

I don't know what the problem is on the O-line. They have passed blocked very well until Saturday, but haven't gotten any push against a decent team since the Cal game. I don't know if it is recruiting, fitness, scheme, or technique, but they haven't gotten the job done.

Talent is not the problem. With the exception of last year, we have had extremely highly rated recruiting classes. Player development has been the problem.

Two players that come to mind...Morley and Bolden.

Jakouri Williams seems to be getting worse and worse. I think he is averaging about 1 mistake per play. I'm not joking. I seriously can't recall a time he's been on the field this year where he has not screwed up. He was good last year as the gunner for punts. I haven't noticed him doing that this year.

No question there's talent on this team that could be better and I believe will get better.

But player development a problem? I can't accept this premise. If development was a problem, then UT wouldn't be at or near the top of the list with NFL players. They don't get drafted unless they were developed in college.

how quickly people forget we had to replace 4 startes on the ol and 5 or 6 of our front 7 on defense..Also I would never throw the ball to chris brown and brad cottam would be my #1 TE

Talent is not the problem, running north and south might be the solution to our problems. We have the scat back mentality, running east and west doesn't score touchdowns.

I'd settle for first downs over touchdowns when it comes to our running game.

Hey waht ever happened to Slick Shelly? He came in the 04 class and havent seen anything out of him. Is he even with the team?

Also alot of our best recruits have had academic issues and have had to take the JC route. I see 3 listed this recruiting class that were recruits from last year.
