Where we out of position or did we just tackle poorly last night? That effort won't get it done vs LSU or Ark.
Ainge and Foster had better be healthy or we will get beat by LSU. What yall think?:rtfm:

I think the UT defense has always had trouble against keying on more than one person in the offensive backfield. If you have a running QB you will score a few points on the Vols.

Chavis' schemes just don't seem to work against running QBs. That said, Newton is definitely fast!

Well its tough to blitz a running QB and that was UT biggest problem against SC last night. Got good pressure but he was able to get away from it LSU's QB wont be able to get away from the pressure.
We need balance badly LSU will load the line and dare us to pass they have a very good secondary if not the best in the nation. i'm a little worried about the health of Ainge if he's ok why are they going for more tests.

russell's not as great a threat to run...and their running game isn't exactly a "beat you down" or "run it down the throat" type of running game. in fact, their offense kind of reminds me of ours.

key for this game will be getting in russell's head forcing him to make mistakes....which he's prone to do. this should be a really good game.

Pressure is the key:rock:

Very good assessment. I personally think this is one of the few games where we have inferior athletes and gulp..........superior coaching.

I think we're going to see a lot of Crompton and Hardesty. The'll either be remembered as too young or as heros. The game rests squarely on the shoulders of the defense.

Very true... Les Miles achieves what he does based on talent alone. If he doesn't recruit well, LSU goes back to also ran status. They are already on the way - with that talent.

same here CLM doesn't exactly instill confidence does he?...and as for infeior atheletes...i'll concede we don't have as MANY as LSU...but our 1st team is pretty good.

they do have a big advantage in personnel though defensively speaking. offensively, i'd call it a push or lean to them because of their O Line.

and just like us...if they don't make mistakes and turn the ball over...they can play with anybody. we'll need a little help from them next Saturday.

Lets hope that EA is good to go. Maybe its just me i dont feel good about starting a R/S freshman against LSU's defense as it will be blitz city USA
I'm in now way saying that Crompton cant pull it off but it will be hard. The crowd MUST be a factor!!

What worries me more than poor tackling is Jamarcus Russell's ability to throw the ball 80 yards. I worry we will be victim to some big plays. We absolutely have to put pressure on him and not let him have time to throw the ball down the field.

I won't deny that Russell isn't the most mobile of QBs....and he looks downright awkward when he tried. But the guy is a beast in that he has the ability to simply shrug off the tackle and make the pass. He would have had at least 10 sacks on him this season if he didn't have this ability. One memorable move was against Arizona where he shrugged off a tackler, ran to the side and paused for his receiver to get in position....paused as he was tacked....about 2 feet off the ground in almost a horizontal position he sees what he was looking for and throws a 30 yard TD.

Not saying that you won't be able to put pressure on him, but it won't be quite as easy as ya'll make it sound. Hasn't come through for us this year yet, but the man has been clutch in a number of games last year.

As for the running game....eh. It depends greatly on the coaching staff. If you hear that Vincent is in, rejoice. If you hear that Hester or Scott is in, expect an average run like we have had all season. But as it seems that Brousarrd is FINALLY starting to return to form after his ACL and complications, we might have something going there. He is still unproven, but he is someone to look out for.

Pretty much everything else is a dead on accurate assessment.

Dear God, why couldn't we have had more warning with the Saban leaving....could you imagine the force we would be with THIS talent under Spurrier?

Part of the problem is that they kept running up the gut on us. We just dont have the size or talent at DT for consistent pressure.

if we had blitzed and maybe put a spy on newton we would have been in better shape. the problem was, we kept trying to flush him out of the pocket, we succeeded in doing so, but then no one was there to hit him, or no one could catch him. we did pretty well when we brought pressure from the corners though.
