I like that you're thinking of angles to play!I think the way to spin this is to tell recruits we are limited on scholarships and the fact we are offering them says how much we want them.
Honestly, we shouldn't have to craft "angles" to get the best players. This isn't that big of a dealI like that you're thinking of angles to play!
But the numbers really don't make this very compelling. Our recruiters would be saying, "look, instead of 35 scholarships, we only have 33 these next several years, look how special you are that we want you bad enough to spend one of our very precious 33 on you!"
Because 33 and 35 just aren't all that different.
And to boot, this kind of message muddies the water on what we value most.. We want to let the kid know we think HE is special, not that our scholarships are special and him getting one means he is, too.
Just focus on the lad.
Go Vols!
On the other hand, recruiting is a brutal competition. Any ethical edge you can get over the other teams that are also recruiting the same player, you absolutely should take advantage of it.Honestly, we shouldn't have to craft "angles" to get the best players. This isn't that big of a deal
