With the continuous freak out threads and negative bashing of the QB situation, I want to offer opinions on how the Vols can be better on offense.

1) QBs have a year under their belts in the system
2) OL is new (but they play OL and they were recruited to play OL). It's not like they just drive around and picked up any ol dudes off the street to play on the line or converting guys who have never played the sport.
3) OL again. This OL HAS to be able to run block better than the last bunch. With multiple pro talents last year, they couldn't run block to save their asses.
4) OL again. Being able to run block with take HUGE amount of stress off the QBs and naturally they will perform better.
5) The WR situation is atop the best in the country and more experienced and more depth.
6) The talent level at RB is so vastly improved over last season that one has a hard time describing it. It was beyond pitiful.....

I'm not suggesting this team will win 8+ games. But I believe they are better and will be better across the board.....

#2, #3, #4 is going to hurt #1, getting the ball to #5, which puts more pressure on #6 to get yards. But If #2, #3, and #4 hurts #1, then defenses will concentrate more on stopping #6, which will limit yards per carry.

Weren't Tennessee's rushing numbers last year the best since, like, 2004?

The QB talk is a good thing IMO. I have confidence that Worley can get the job done but if Peterman is actually in the running to start, that must mean that he is looking really good since recovering from his injury. It's a win win either way!

My biggest hope for the OL is that they have another year in the same system that the old group did not get.

Maybe they will be more comfortable in the zone blocking system and more mobile.

QB play will be key. It probably will be better, but not good enough. Up and down season ahead. Hope I'm wrong.

So in other words you are suggesting that Tennessee had a good running game last year?

Relatively speaking, yeah. I'm saying the stats suggest it was the most effective running game since the tandem of Riggs and Houston, especially considering the lack of a threat in the passing game. :hi:

We have potential threat in the TE this year. Also- I believe our lineman are in better shape, lighter which means they can get out in space and block.. Finally another year in the system.

This will be the final judgement of Dooley. He recruited most of the OL starting and back up's including the interior part of G and C and will also start next season and many back up so we will see if they are players or pretenders.

If the lines come together and can be serviceable and some key freshman are able to play well and if we can stay healthy we CAN win more than 6 games. Those are all big IFs though.

If Tennessee is going to be better than people think, it will be because of what you did not mention.....defense.

The defense will need to be better than people think for that to happen. For that to be the case, guys like Maggitt have to deliver a pass rush which Tennessee hasn't had in years.
