Possible UT/UNC matchup...

eh its possible, but the michigan state vs. carolina game would be crazy.

Tennessee, once beating Winthrop, has a TOUGH TOUGH 2nd round game, and I'd rather see Seton Hall. WSU is a great team and I don't like UT's chances there.

I think if we made it, we would play against MSU. When I first saw MSU play in the Maui Invitaional, I thought they would at least go to the Sweet 16. Evethough they lost to Hawaii and then Gonzaga. Saying all of that I think UT can beat em :D

I love this. It is overwhelmingly obvious to me that most serious basketVol fans are worried about UNC. Otherwise, there would not be anywhere near so much pro-Michigan St. garbage being posted on this generally anti-Big10 board. Anyone with a brain can see that Michigan St. has been erratic at best. They have lost 60% of their last 10 games. There marquis win of late was over an Illinois team that owned them twice in the regular season and had nothing to prove in the conference tourney. I'm not really sure why Mich.St. was even selected with 18 wins at 6th place in a down-year Big10. UNC on the other hand started cold but has probably been playing as well as anybody for the past 10 weeks. IMO a lot of people wrote UNC off early and simply did not pay attention to the fact that they have turned it around big time.

I hope it is UT-UNC, and I hope that UT wins. But as they say, hope in one hand-crap in the other and see which one fills up first.

I believe that Mich St. gives UT more of a matchup problem than UNC. UNC's freshman are going to have a hell of a time working against our press, and even if Hansborough burns us inside for 30 points, that is all UNC has...If we end up matching up against UNC in the Sweet 16, CBP had better show his team the BC-UNC tape and we should just foul the heck out of Hansborough, force him to get his points at the line.

Okay. So what do you do when Lofton and Watson foul out? IMO UNC is fast enough to break the press. This is not a dig at UT, just my observation.

Also, applying the foregoing logic, I guess UNC only has to watch the USC-UT tape. :mf_surrender:

No, that logic really doesn't work concerning the USC-UT tape. We lost to USC because we couldn't buy a bucket until the final 3 minutes. If we had shot like we did all year against USC we probably would have won by at least 10.

UNC shot the ball well against BC, the difference was BC deciding that collecting fouls was a better option than letting Hansborough have easy points in the paint. Maybe we don't have the depth in the middle to that, however, since Wingate is not much of an offensive threat, I would think that Childress could at least foul hard enough to send Hansborough to the line for 2 shots. Our scoring comes from Lofton, Watson, Smith, and Bradshaw...let Wingate, Patterson, and Childress rack up 15 fouls against the FOY.

I know this is a UT board but I don't care who wins as long as they PLAY each other. My dream matchup.

I disagree..I think the press causes an uptempo pace..and that plays right into UNC's hand..they love to run..I'd be more worried about the bullying MSU would do inside against UT and their halfcourt sets.

UT has shown that other teams (even quicker teams) can't run with them. Memphis might be the most athletic team in the country, and one that hates playing out of half court sets, and they had to slow the pace down against us.

Honestly I think that's a likely match up. I'm not too worried about Winthrop who is a team that lost to Coastal Carolina twice and then only beat them by 1 point to get in the tourney in a game which they scored 51 points....it will be hard enough for Winthrop to hold Chris Lofton from scoring 51 points much less the whole team....lol!
