Are either one of the QBs missing OPEN recievers, not overthrowing, but not seeing them? On TV I have only seen one missed receiver and that was in the GA game when Clausen stepped over the line of scrimmage.

Both quarterbacks have the field vision of Helen Keller. :matrix:

I love having season tickets low and at the end of the field. Its a great persepective to better see the plays develop and get a feel of the play of the game.

I have lost count of how many wide open receivers they have missed. I would bet that at least 1/4 of the pass plays could have been thrown to a different receiver with a much different outcome.

Both QB's, especially Ainge, have this horrible habit of staring down one receiver. These guys are just not fundamentally sound at all.

i was at the game. on the first series clausen had a guy open at the first down mark and didnt see him so he just tucked it and ran with it.

Was that the play where he made the nice pump fake and the proceeded to dive a yard short of the first down? :banghead:

I think I heard the crowd screaming at the QBs about an open guy about 5 times during the game. Anyone else agree?

It was maddening to be there and see so many receivers running free and not be able to connect with them. Ainge definitely didn't see several open receivers, and Rick Clausen looked like he had regressed for some reason. Neither of them look like they are seeing the field very well. We were getting man coverage all over the place and once again we didn't make the defense pay.

I know everybody is bashing playcalling, but I think we could play against thin air right now and not connect on 50% of our passes.

These are all good arguements for the need for a different qb coach.
Its hard to believe that they would continue to not see open receivers if someone was in their ear about it at halftime, after the game, film reviews, contstantly correcting them etc. :twocents:

That probably part of it, but last night Ainge was 9-21 and Clausen was 5-11 . . . . At some point, you have to come to the conclusion that we just aren't very good at QB right now.

Much as I expect to get flamed for it, RS has called a good game (for the most part) for the last 2 games.

We are having breakdowns in execution - line, RB's, QB's and WR's (we don't use the Tightend so their off the hook :biggrin2: )

Two areas where UT has been strong but not for the last several years?

Offensive line - we've not hit our potential here for quite a while - we've had good enough RB's but they aren't getting the openings they used to get.

QB play - as has been said here on many occassions - under RS we haven't developed QB's. Casey didn't seem to improve a whole lot over his 4 years (although I thought he was pretty good - more flaming). Tee did okay but nothing great and EA seems to have gone backwards.

Here's is where the coaching must be improved.

I won't flame you for that. Who knows, you could be right. Here is my question, why don't we use the TE more? Did we try to throw to one at all yesterday?

I know at Tennessee they're for blocking, but I keep remembering how important Witten was to our team.

How many balls were just a little off target that would have been caught by the SC WRs , we're not vry good at Wr right now either.

Question: What happened to the other QB that we had last year? I can't even remember his name. Did he transfer? Switch positions? Bret something I think. I seem to have missed that in the off season. I didn't keep up on my VolInfo very well.

Brent Schaffer. He's in juco at the moment. From what I hear he's been racing up a whole lotta offensive yards. Rumor mill is that he;s gonna come back and be a gator. (Though I hope this isnt true)

From what I saw (which wasn't much) I thought he was better than Ainge last year. He could move. Too bad he hurt his shoulder. What's the full story? Why isn't he at UT anymore?

he got into an altercation with a student and that got him in trouble with the staff. but i think he didnt wanna share time with ainge or clausen the way things were shaking up at the end of last year. the only problem i saw with him last year was his passing accuracy. he hit some good throws at times but wasnt consistent. he seemed like he spent more time running around in the pocket than looking for recievers. i still wonder what it would be like to still have him though
