When I'm not fishing, I enjoy hitting up the local Dirt Track. Good place to take the ladies on a date. Seems the smell of Race Car fuel makes the dates to easier.

My dad also grew up in Halls, Tn. Back when they had a dirt track. He used to go to West Memphis a lot and hang out with Sammy Swindell and His Brother back in the day. Love me some World of Outlaws.

i guess the closest dirt track is Bulls Gap, but if I were to actually venture out and watch a race, I'd either go to Lonesome Pine or most likely make the trip up to Motor Mile in Radford, VA.

I have been there numerous times!
I think it is part of the Tri-Track challenge in the summer, with the UMP late models.

Ironically Ken Schrader owns part of PIR! Along with Dale Earnhardt Jr, who hardly ever shows up when he is supposed to. Schrader pulled off and awesome win last year at PIR. Pulled a slidejob in turn 4 with 2 to go.

At one time Tony Stewart was looking to buy Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway, but then he bought Eldora. I think it worked out for him...

Lonesome Pine used to have some excellent racing, but now I would put Radford over it. (both are paved tracks)

Sadly there are no longer any dirt tracks left in the Tri-Cities. At on time there were three, Sportsman Speedway in Johnson City, and two in Kinsport, although the Kingsport Speedway was paved later. The first track I went to at a very young age was at Chinquipin Grove outside of Bluff City.

Stateline Speedway/Tenn-Ga Speedway/Boyd's Speedway, whatever the hell it's called now. It was Boyd's when I worked there two years ago. You couldn't find a nicer group of people. Well, except the drivers after a little pile up. But hey, that comes with the territory. I'd I've loved to have raced the 600cc midget's that they were running.

EDIT:Holy crap, they've got LLM and Sprint Cars? I might need to take a trip back down there next week.

i never could get into late models, modifieds, etc.

but i do love me some sprint cars. my favorite dirt track is the Action Track in Terra Haute, followed by the 1 miler at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. my favorite pavement track is without question the quarter miler in Anderson, IN.

Super Late Model dirt is WHERE ITS AT! Nothing IMO compares to that type of racing. Slinging a car into a corner 130 MPH, lifting the left front completely off the ground, all the while having a car or two beside you doing the same thing.

The closest track to me is Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap. Nice facility for dirt - 27 degrees or so of banking. Convenient location and usually draws in a good crowd of cars for big races.

The most awesome experience on dirt - just have to see it once - is Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN. 36 degrees - YES, 36 degrees of insanity. They can't even get a tow truck on the high banks because they flip. They use a tractor to haul off the torn up cars. The sheer speeds on that 1/3 mile track makes the hair on your arms stand straight up!

My other favorite is a track I'm getting ready to leave for this morning actually. My dad and I are headed to the Dirt Track at Lowes Motor Speedway right across the street from the big track. They are having the $50,000 to win Colossal 100 this weekend (sometime this weekend - Sunday if they have to). Supposed to have about 80 of the best DLM guys in the country there on the nicest track and facility in the country for dirt. Its like the Taj Mahal of dirt racing and I love it. Should be wired once I get there though so I will still be lurking the forums when I'm not at the track.

this is pretty much true of ANY car driven on dirt. imagine all that, plus no fenders, and you have sprint car racing.

the fastest way around will always be sideways through the turns.

Sprint cars are flat out awesome! I lived in Terra Haute, and also like that track, but my favorite dirt oval has to be Eldora with Knoxville, Iowa up there as well. Sprints on asphalt are ok, but their element is well prepared clay.

Did you make it to the WoO races at Bristol?

I was at the WoO races at Bristol, and the Late Model Races...

UN REAL. The sprint cars ran laps in the low 11 second range. It was that Rast. Sammy Swindell officially owns the track record there.

They claimed the lap average speeds were the fastest ever turned by sprint cars. It was a shame the dirt wasn't wetted properly to keep down the dust.
