... basically that it wasn't that our D played badly, it was that their O was so weird it confused even him, and (practically with a band playing God Bless America in the background) that AF was made up, after all, of the best, brightest, and most dedicated young men in America.

Leave it to Phil to say something pretty much true in a time and way that makes you want to yelp, "BULLS***" and thump him on the nose with your finger. Hard.

I can't say that I disagree him. I don't know that I've seen the triple option executed that well in years.

If I were CPF, I'd burn the game film.

AF's coach was giving props to Xavier Mitchell after the game for that key stop on the two point conversion.

It is, after all, just a game.

Hey we WON. That is all that matters. That was a offense we wont see again this year, and Chavis we have his boys ready next week.

The only thing that bothers me a little is that we didnt run as much as I would have liked.

I still have no idea what Deberry was thinking on that playcall. They KILLED us with the option all night long and then on the biggest play of the game, he runs a toss sweep?!

Thank you very much.

Well... maybe you had to hear him. He sounded like a guy putting a spin on things instead of being sincere (and Phil's never been that good at the acting/ spin thing).

Unfortunately, I'll have to wait for the CPF show to see whether I agree with you, disagree, or both. Maybe Phil sounded hinky because he thought people wouldn't believe him, and he was conscious TRYing to sound upbeat.

The radio version made it sound like our D had alot to do with why they performed the triple-option so well, but, then, they're basically just guys like us who like to read and talk about CF and know how to breathe for the microphone....

LMAO. Fulmer is a capable coach, but as an interviewee ....

The radio version made it sound like

I'm not denying that our defense could have played a LOT better, but once you SEE how well Air Force executed the reads and fakes, I think you'll understand why we had so much trouble.

I just hope Urban Meyer doesn't get ahold of the game film.

Like I say, we won't run option run play at you. Its some misdirection, yes, but built on play fakes and pre-snap action, not tosses and the like.

Now, down the road, will Florida go that route? I think so, some, yes. But not with this line this year, and not with a guy that, if you give him a second or two, is going to complete 70 % of his passes to some of the fastest athletes in football gear anywhere.

This was a trap game basically. Looking ahead to Florida while playing a unorthodox offense.

It'll be interesting to see how AF does the rest of the way. I don't know, Fulmer's post-game comments didn't bother me. I thought he was trying to sound genuinely upbeat and trying to remind everyone that last year we were on the losing end of a few of these types of games. I agree - I definitely am happy with a one point win - I agree with GAVol, I couldn't believe they ran a toss sweep on the 2-pt try.

2-0 is a great place to be right now. I'm happy with the win and looking forward to next Saturday. I believe the defense will come out trying to prove something next week.

That is an excellent point. Last year UT did come out on the wrong end of some close ones. Granted, it makes you nervous with better teams ahead, but its better to win it and learn and move on than take a gut punch and have to try to regroup.

So was winning this game by 1 point perhaps a blessing in disguise? Will we focus that much more in the coming week based off of the disrespect we're sure to get by the media?

And that's exactly why it was so tough, they executed the crap out of that offense. Air Force really looked good (on offense), they'll win some games if their defense could get a stop.

as a fan, it feels like we lost in a way.

I definitely think that in a way we did. It wasn't just the fact that AF decided to go for the win instead of the tie with that final 2 pt attempt, but that was certainly an enormously symbolic play.

After the game, the AF coach said he announced they were going to do that to his players and they all just beamed at him....

However you rationalize it (as in break it down rationally, not the modern "make excuses" definition of rationalize) we played beneath ourselves against a weaker opponent who not only played above themselves, but made an old-school Winner's Gesture at the end.

To me that was the defining moment of the game. AF played all night like the sort of team that makes that sort of gesture, and all night we played (at least on D) like we were the better team who could never quite get their feet- much less their "Go for 2" attitude.

I'll agree with that. They definitely took the route that military men are taught to... go for the win!

It is a new week now, and we have to prepare for the gators! The dedication will be there this week!

Negative, Negative, Negative.

Tennessee didn't punt all night.

5:00 to play, Tennessee is up 14, with the ball on the 12. If Ainge doesn't throw that INT, you're still under a rock and waiting to be critical until another game.

Your doom and gloom isn't exactly an indication of how the game REALLY was. I'm not sure if it's just the way you are, or if because you weren't there, but this game has nothing to do with any other game this season, except for the injuries that were suffered.

This is a game that Tennessee would have lost by double digits last season. I'll take the win and move on to Florida feel free to keep twisting the facts of a win around to squeeze out all the poison you can. I don't think you'll have much of a chance to do it next week.

The silver lining to all this is that the defense learned a valuable lesson in preparation, never underestimate an opponent, and position discipline....as well as we'll have a lil chip on our shoulders next saturday with hopefully renewed explosion on defense against the Gators with a real realization we could've LOST very easy. All that gained....and we still won. Its great to be a Vol fan!:)

If it feels like we lost the game, look again at the scoreboard. Want to remember what it feels like to lose, watch the Vandy game.
