I imagine many or most responses will be similar, but what are your thoughts on our potential path to victory in Tuscaloosa? I liked that someone pointed out the transition of this streaky series has come with back-to-back wins, so maybe we have a superstitious path, too.

My potential path to victory:

#1 BOTH lines and the running backs dominate. They have to be the tip of the spear IMO. Providing the rest of the team and Joe confidence.

Some receiver steps WAY up in all facets of the game: Gets open when we need, bails Joe out on imperfect throws, and makes clutch catches in the red zone. My prediction is Keyton.

Joe minimizes mistakes: No turnovers, no string of bad passes that wreck drives and quarters, and above all, no forced errors in the red zone.

Score if this happens 27 UT - 23 AL
TN - 1 passing TD, 1 rushing TD, 1 defensive or special teams score & 2 field goals

AL - 2 passing TD's early that most of us write the game off over. 3 field goals cause our defensive line pressure, and the tighter windows for Milroe make Saban play very conservatively in the red zone.

we have to be good up front, both lines
get after the qb, all day... several sacks
zero turnovers...hopefully create some ourselves though
do not give up the big plays and try not to get pass interference everytime they throw deep
be able to run the ball on them
be able to have a few good long successful pass attempts to keep them worrying about our passing game as well
DO NOT make it any harder on yourself than it needs to be (holding, personal foul calls, etc.)

i think they will be prepping for the run game way more than the pass game.... if we could just have a good game from milton and our receivers and connect on a few long shots... we got a shot

my biggest fear:
- playing on the road (we haven't done well in that)

Agree but why do we think we need "long passes"? Completing some of those bubble passes (as some call them) also keeps the defense honest.

Yes if we were to get behind by multiple scores and it is late we may need longer passes - but if the intent is to open up the run game and keep the defense honest, the shorter passes and keeping ahead of the chains will work just as good.

And not making mistakes is critical in this game. We want to avoid mistakes that give Bama scoring opportunities.

No missed scoring chances, points will be at a premium.
Receivers running crisp routes, catching the football.
Control the line of scrimmage, both sides.
Limit the penalties. They are drive killers/extenders.

I don't think it's complicated. We have to be able to run the ball, limit penalties, and we need a few big plays to go our way, whether it be special teams, turnovers or whatever. I think we need all 3 of those and keep most Bama scores to FGs. I just don't have a lot of confidence that all of those are going to happen. We've got to play substantially better than we have in any game we've played so far this season, and do it on the road in a hostile environment.

Offensive line continue to play at a high level
Defense contine to pressure and sack the qb
RBs dont go down until 2nd contact
Joe manage the game.

IMO Chaz Nimrod may have a breakout game.

I could see the breakout guy being Nimrod. He was a lone bright spot against A&M.

Easiest path to victory: score a TD every time you have the ball and let the DL go after Milroe.

Edit: and what everyone else said above about penalties and OL/DL.

I think Keyton and Squirrel show up big this week. As well as our running backs and O-line! I expect all our offense to step up. It’s going to be a tough game win or lose we have to bring the intensity and fight on both sides of the ball and special teams. We have to play smart, disciplined and very tough. We can win this one, we have to be ready to battle! We have to be confident but focused and prepared! GBO

I think if we do all of what you said, we will win going away. I think even with a turnover or two, we can still win 27-23. The margin of error is small, but not air tight like it used to be against Bama. JMO

Heupel has adapted at just the right time in my opinion. Teams in the SEC (and across the NCAA) have been gearing up to stop the prolific passing offenses that rely on big play production. Defenses have adjusted their recruitment and schemes around this shift. Yes, Tennessee was a solid running team last year...But, this year has taken a huge leap forward. At the beginning of the year many were frustrated with the WR screen plays. I believed in the preseason this would be a huge part of our offense due to two things. 1) Milton can get it out there faster than Hooker. 2) This will force DB's to play tighter on the outside. Why? This opens up the running game. Milton has improved the running game because of the potential of a quicker ball. Now, as we roll into the Bama game, Kevin Steele has to decide how to defend this aspect of our O. Tennessee can run the ball better than Texas. Texas ran all over Bama. The only question is this...can Milton keep Bama honest on the outside enough to keep the box a man down? I think he can. I think Milton goes for 170 and a TD. I think Bama stacks to stop the run and the outside passing game opens up for 7 yds a screen play. Bama will get stuck in the awful game of trying to even themselves out and not committing fully in one direction. Tennessee takes advantage for 28 pts. Will it be enough...don't know. But I like our chances.

No pre snap penalties
Winning down 1 w/3+ yards every possession
Win turnover battle

UT's D front- they have to control the LOS and get pressure... and not get held all day. Milroe needs to be able to completely sympathize with Max Johnson.... he needs to "feel his pain".

Milton. He needs to do two of these three things so Bama can't scheme to stop UT's RBs- 8-12 designed runs for positive yardage, 4-6 deep completions, perfect on the WR screens.

If he runs and throws the screens well then Bama has to give UT one or the other. If he runs and hits some deep balls then the safeties have to play on their heels or hope the others can hold up in man.

If he throws the screens and can hit some deep shots... then EVERYTHING is available to UT and Bama has to defend every inch of the field.

We played like crap the last 3 away games, not counting Vandy. Would not surprise me if it's the same thing
