This year should be really exciting because of all the position battles that are to be anticipated. I am sure I have looked over some but what do you guys think about our potential depth chart next year? I know we are still getting recruits in, but the spring and summer should be intriguing. Newcomer obviously means a new freshman competing...

QB: Worley vs. Peterman vs. Ferguson
RB: Neal vs. Lane vs. Newcomer
WR1: Dallas vs. Croom vs. newcomer
WR2: Carter vs. Bowles vs. Harris
WRSlot: Pig vs. Newcomer
TE: Downs vs. Meredith vs. Newcomer
LG: Jackson vs. Bullard
DEStrongside: Miller vs. Sentimore vs. Carr
DEWeakside: Williams vs. Smith vs. Newcomer
OLB: Sapp vs. newcomer
CB: Bonner vs. Sutton vs. Jones
SS: McNeil vs. Randolph
FS: Moore vs. McNeil vs. Reeve-Maybin vs. newcomer
K: Bullock vs. Palardy
P: Palardy vs. Darr

Is Daniel Gray coming back? I heard that story both ways. If he is back, I hope he is in the mix at CB.

Gray and Bonner could be a nice set of corners for a couple of years if they can get their acts together. They both have the size, speed and talent.

I heard he was leaving, but have seen nothing official. I am also worried about Bonner's future as well...

I really like how the competition brings out the best in the players. I mean that battle between Darr and Palardy really brought out the best in our punters, and the Palardy versus Brodus battle brought our placekicking to a whole new level.

Other than offensive line, every spot has to be open.

I think McCullers and AJ Johnson and Curt Maggert and if healthy, Randolph, are all locks on the defensive side.

As you say...Fulton, Tiny, Ju'Wuan, Stone on the O Line

I think the only true locks on the team are Tiny and Ju'Wuan - jmo

AJ and Maggitt disagree with you.

CM did nothing last year and AJ struggled in coverage as well as took poor angles and gave up a lot of big plays

do i think both will start - yes - is either a lock - no

a lock means no chance

do i think there is a chance they couldnt start - yep - do i think there is a chance someone like crowder or bullard could pick up CBJ's offense and start over Stone - yep - in fact that almost happened last year with stone

the only 2 i think there is absolutely no chance anyone passes are Tiny and JJ - again jmo

Maggitt acted banged up all year. Seem to me he was either favoring his right arm (IIRC) or he was limping. I'm not sure if he ever got over the turf toe.

Per the kids twitter account is coming back and going to work hard for the Thorpe Award. The whole DG was leaving was because he lost a close friend and while grieving posted on twitter that he didnt want to come back to TN. Given the situation it was understandable. However since he has stated that he looks forward to coming back and is ready to put in the work to be the best he can be.

PS Yes I follow him on twitter but much like here I only read and never tweet or whatever towards the players.

If they're both healthy, they're a lock. But as you said about your locks, its jmo.

If any kid, such as Gray, Bonner or any other player doesn't want to suit up in the Orange next year, forget them! Move on! We want players that want to suit up on gameday in Orange! If they are feared of not playing then we don't need them! Man up and earn the right to start! I think dont CBJ is into baby sitting! JMO! CDD was into begging, CBJ will say see ya! I think I like CBJ! He will do incredible things at UT in years to come!

Coleman on one side and and Bonner or Gray on the other and Gordon at Nickel IMO

Randolph vs Moore at FS
McNeil vs JRM at SS

Or work in Coleman at FS

So who do you think would start over AJ or Maggitt?

its not that i think there are awesome options on the bench just waiting to be unearthed from the staff - its just that if we are going to try and get more athletic at LB then I think everyone will get another look - a lot of our struggles came in coverage and on getting to the edge - speed helps both of those

if your looking at 4-3 LB's - then both AJ and CM's biggest weakness would be speed

i think if vereen impresses or we land a big time LB they could sneak in and start

i also think some other guys like jKing could come over and get a shot

the likelihood is that they will start but i think if that happens it is more b/c of our depth there than their dominance

whereas Tiny and JJ would start regardless b/c they are that much better than any other options we could conceivably have

Speed isn't an issue with Maggitt. I have absolutely no idea where that came from. Dude has some excellent acceleration for a guy his size. He had turf toe all season which hampered his speed. When he sacked Glennon and forced a fumble was an example of what he can do when healthy.

AJ, speed might not be his best asset, but dude is a flat out baller. At times he's struggled with coverage...so it seems. But nobody wants to mention how Sal's pathetic system left him on an island trying to defend a slot WR in space. That's something some people completely ignore for some reason. The fact that these guys played for the worst DC in UT history. That IMO had more to do with their struggles than anything. Another thing....Curt and AJ are sophomores who have been in 2 different systems, that matters. AJ Johnson is on a one way track to the NFL. That's not a matter of opinion, that's a fact. The idea of a freshman who wasn't even that highly recruited coming in and starting over him is laughable at best.

If theres one guy I can see coming out of nowhere and pushing for PT, it might be Channing Fugate, JMO. Dude is a bonafide football player. Dooley screwed this kid over x10 by moving him from FB. He has great hands, fast, and hard nosed. I see him being a good LB before he leaves here. His career is closely following the path of Austin Johnson, and that worked out pretty good.

Coleman is one who will benefit the most from new coaches. He looked lost at times last year

From our current roster or incoming freshman, you seriously think there is a possibility that someone will knock off the guy who had the most tackles in the SEC and fourth in all of football? I just don't see it.
