Curious about Powell.

Do you think he’d be in the position he’s in here at TN if he’d stayed at Auburn this year? (riding the bench). Do you think Pearl could utilize his skill set better than our staff did this year? Barnes has the rigid expectations of a ‘guard’ type player, and Powell seems more of a WING shooter and not a ball handler.

Ultimately it seems Powell would be better suited with a coach that doesn’t expect what seems to be outside his skill set.

Powell is good and I hate that he hasn’t thrived this season here for us. He’s regressed with Barnes and I hate that.

I'm guessing he hasn't taken to Barnes's style of coaching.
Probably best if he seeks greener pastures in a lower level, imo. Kid has been given opportunities this year and hasn't taken advantage.

I don’t agree that lower level is the answer… He’s good. He had MAJOR hoops last year before the concussion.

Powell was only “good” last year on a terrible team. He probably would’ve been on the bench at Auburn this year.

What is he good at? And has he done any of it since conference play started?

I may very well be wrong.
I like the kid and pull for him. Just giving my opinion from the outside looking in.

I think he has the skills to be a solid college player but it starts in his head. You have to play with confidence and he just looked lost. Maybe he can’t deal with the tough coaching, not sure, but he has some talent. Has size and some playmaking ability.

Idk what happened to his shot but it was way off from what I saw at Auburn. It looks like whenever he shoots, the ball always veers to the right. He doesn’t shoot through the ball. Barnes has notoriously been great at improving guys shots (ie Kevin Punter, Admiral, Grant) so it’s very odd to me.

There is a reason Pearl let him walk !
There is something there…. Devon Cambridge had saucy things to say about Justin Powell on twitter. I wonder what transpired through all that concussion timeframe last year and the decision to transfer?!

Powell can play at a high SEC level. He got in a shooting funk and lost his confidence IMO. Offseason will be huge for him.

I think he is capable of being a very good shooter. But he is a poor all around player. His effort in every other part of the game is piss poor. Not SEC starting material. He’s been a huge disappointment.

I've wondered if they would look into getting his first year at Auburn considered a medical redshirt since he only played in 10 games. The requirement is playing in less than 30 percent of games, which he doesn't currently meet, but Auburn also opted out of postseason play at the beginning of the season; so he theoretically could have met that threshold.

I have no idea whether he will be a contributor after an off-season. Let's hope so

Ouch 😶 — disagree. If he’s bad then Fulky should have never seen the floor JMO. We all love Fulky cause he’s the hometown hero (I like Fulky) but Fulky truly isn’t that great either.

It doesn’t matter. He gets 2020-21 back as the COVID exemption year. He has 3 years left.

JF’s stat sheets say otherwise. He produces better results. And they are not even comparable in the effort department. If Fulk stood around under the basket waiting to be open or for a rebound to just fall in his hands, I might agree with you.

That said, Fulk is inconsistent and has been his entire career. I think we replace him with someone better.

I think he lost confidence. Then didn't shoot the ball and coach had him in the game to shoot. If he doesn't shoot and make shots and has other weaknesses then why have him in the game?

Notorious doesn’t mean what you think it does. Powell’s shot will come back. He has a great stroke. He’s just not athletic enough for this system.
