I’m not done with him yet but at UCF his teams got worse every season. Hopefully that’s not a telling trend. If he’s not willing to fire his buddies and get good coordinators then that’ll be his downfall
There is no doubt the D has statistically improved under Banks. BUT, tennessee ranks 57th out of 133 teams in 3rd down conversion percentage (38.4%). This is Banks' achilles heel and they slightly regressed this year from last year.
Just for reference, they finished 29th last year (35%), but were 106th in 2021 (46%).
The youth next year will be far beyond Nico though. Multiple positions will be young. Agreed on 2025.Year 4+ is unknown territory for Heupel.
Next year the 'excuse de jour' will be "young team" with people ignoring the fact that Nico's lack of substantial playing time in 2023 was a direct result of Heupel's decisions.
In 2025, the chickens come home to roost, and we'll finally find out whether Heupel can lead a successful SEC program or not.
The passing game has taken a huge step back. The WRs can't get separation. The Qb is inconsistent with his accuracy. There's not enough deep balls because of that and the opposing D's can play closer to the line to stop the run as a result.First, prior to Mizzou, we were #27 in 3rd down, so not an achilles heel, just a narrative. We have also regressed on offense, enough that this Heupel's worse offensive year. Why do you think that is?
Both are pitiful. See how that works. The passing game has taken a huge step back. The WRs can't get separation. The Qb is inconsistent with his accuracy. There's not enough deep balls because of that and the opposing D's can play closer to the line to stop the run as a result.
Mizzou converted 65% of their 3rd down attempts. Call it whatever you want, but that's pitiful when there is so much on the line.

Are you saying that the defense sucked becasue the offense sucked? Both are pitiful. See how that works.

Last season the defense was awful but the O was #1 in almost every category. The two are connected, but not in the way youre suggesting.
The D sucked before the O sucked in CoMo. Schrader had right at 200 apyds in the first half. It was still a ballgame at that point. You can't blame Schrader putting on a clinic on the O's lack of execution.
Narrative must be your favorite word. You sure do use it alot if not.Do you realize that the defense was #22 in the country last year in stop rate? The stopped teams from scoring over 70% of the time. For context, I believe the highest stop rate was around 78% of the time, so to say defense was awful is pretty foolish and ignorant. Our stop rate on defense is a contributing factor to winning 11 games last year.
Also, you do realize that Schrader had 112 rushing yards against Georgia and Cook had 275 passing yard against Georgia. And they scored 21 points against Georgia which has one of the top defenses in the country. Mizzou had 500 yard I believe going into the 4th quarter of our game, but only 22 points. Do you think we have anywhere near the talent or depth that Georgia has? Can you see why yards don't really matter?
Creating narratives is not actual reality.

Last season,
84th in total yards per game (406)
49th in passing yards given up (224 yds/game)
24th in rushing (116)
30th in PPG (21)
37th in Total Defense, 5th in the SEC, which is what really matters statistically speaking for the defense as a whole.
you can cherry pick stats all you want, but giving up 400 yards per game is not good by any stretch of the imagination. The defense has not been good enough to compete with the best teams in the SEC under Heup yet. If they want to compete, they have to change some things and learn how to make adjustments.
Also, please see similar defensive collapses from last season against USCjr, Bama, Georgia, and Florida. The offense bailed the D out in 2/4, but couldn't keep up in the other two, never even had a chance in 1 of those. Are you joking right now or being a troll? The defense hasn't been good enough.........
That ends this conversation.......
I can NOT have a conversation with anyone who uses YARDS......Also, please see similar defensive collapses from last season against USCjr, Bama, Georgia, and Florida. The offense bailed the D out in 2/4, but couldn't keep up in the other two, never even had a chance in 1 of those.
Florida had 594 total yards
USCjr had 606
Bama had 569
UGA had 337 in the first half! then went super conservative in the second half and leaned on that top ranked defense
We also had two(2) starting LBs injured and out for the season Saturday. That is a position which was the thinest when CJH became our coach and he is recruiting very well at that position. Don't give up; don't ever give up.The passing game has taken a huge step back. The WRs can't get separation. The Qb is inconsistent with his accuracy. When Heupel took over the defense personnel was a complete disaster. We all knew it. Add to it for his first two years he played with reduction of 9 scholarships each year. How he won 7 the first year (could have won 9 with some breaks) was beyond me. None of us expected 11 in ‘22 with wins over 3 or 4 ranked teams. Also, please see similar defensive collapses from last season against USCjr, Bama, Georgia, and Florida.
