I got a call from my sister tonight and found out that my mom has been admitted to the hospital. She had passed out this morning. My sister went by my mom's apartment to check on her and found her on the floor. No broken bones. Anyway, she'll be in the hospital for 3 days. I think it may be from low blood sugar, but the doctors aren't sure.
My sister hopes that if the doctors keep her in the hospital for 3 days that they may admit her to a nursing home after that. My mom has said she didn't want to go into a nursing home. However, she doesn't need to be by herself all the time as she does have spells passing out when she tries to get up out of her chair to quick. My mom will be 83 in June.

Prayer sent..................It would be a God Send for her to live with you if you had a room in your house that she could use like an apartment. I think we all will face that decision one day no doubt.

Since my mom is in Tennessee and we're in northern VA that's a little tough. Besides we don't have the space. My youngest sister lives within 3 miles of my mom and doesn't necessarily want our mom to live with her. My older sister (both are younger than me) lives in Louisville, KY. Thanks to all of you for your prayers. Once I get an update I'll let everyone know.

Nothing is more frustrating and scarier than thinking about a parent being alone and getting hurt. I went through it and I was only 5 minutes from my Dad, not to mention he was living with me. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I see your point. Elderly people still desire independence no doubt. On the other hand, sometimes it just isn't possible. She may actually turn out to be ok. In my case, since my dad died years ago, I always feel an obligation to to do whatever to take care of my mom especially since that was one of his last request to me.I think things will work out for everyone. One point is they do send hospice nurses by everyday whenever they are close to passing away.On top of all this my wife is an RN.Good luck!

Prayers sent for your mom, and for the situation in general. Whether or not to put a parent in a nursing home is a very hard decision to make. I've never had to make it, but I remember when my mom had to decide to put my grandmother in a nursing home. I pray that God will give you and your sisters the wisdom to make the right decision.
