I'd greatly appreciate your prayers for my 77 yr old uncle. He fell this afternoon, causing a big gash on his head, and apparently has 2 or more bleeds on the brain...arachnoid bleeds I believe they called them.

He was air lifted to Vanderbilt just a few hours ago, and is in ICU for tests and probably surgery. I'm waiting on more info from the hospital, but preliminary reports sound serious.

Thanks so much...and Mods, feel free to move if necessary.

O Lord, we have a friend here who needs your attention. We know you are there, and our faith in you helps ease the worry that is felt in times like these. Be with this family, Lord... guide then through this trying time and bring your healing power to flesh, mind and spirit, so that the goodness of Your power brings welcome relief.
Amen

Thanks everyone.

Dr's initially told us they thought my uncle had an aneurism to burst on his brain...that they'd have to do surgery to try to stop the bleeding, repair whatever damage, etc. I believe they feared he may bleed out, may suffer brain damage, or not be strong enough to recover at all.

I spoke to family at the hospital recently, and after running scans, the Dr's say they think the blood on the brain is from hitting his head during the fall, not a burst aneurism. If this is the case, then the brain should absorb the blood and the wound would heal itself...no surgery needed.

They'll run more scans in the morning to see if this is the case. He's not out of the woods by any stretch. But, he is aware of what's going on, and aware of family that's with him...although he's fairly sedated.

He's still in bad shape, but hopefully not as bad as initially feared...time and tests will tell. But for now, thank you VN for your prayers, and thank you Lord for hearing them...

Suffered similar injury in a car accident. They will do continuous scans for a few hours to see if the edema is increasing in size. If not then the blood on the brain will slowly dissipate over time. Your uncle will prob have a severe headache for awhile and a dull one for a long time. In my case 6 months.

@ StoVol...at this point it looks like you are somewhat correct.

As I said earlier, doctors initially thought he had an aneurism to burst on his brain, which looked pretty bleak, especially at his age.

After running more scans, they believe vertigo caused him to fall, and the blood is from hitting his head during the fall. If this is correct , then StoVol's scenario above should be right. The doctors are going to do more tests to check for any damage...swallowing, standing, motor skills, etc. He's still in pretty bad shape, as he took a bad lick to the head. But, hopefully it's not as severe as originally feared.

Again I say, THANKS everyone for your prayers and thank you Lord for hearing them.
