As many of us here really despise the athletic aspect of the University of Alabama and the city of Tuscaloosa, I think it's appropriate that we all take time to say a prayer, meditate, or just take a moment of silence to remember those lives lost in the city of Tuscaloosa, as well as other cities in Alabama and NW Georgia. I myself live in Ringgold, GA, and we were hit very hard last night with a tornado. Fortunately, my family was spared, but the rest of the city wasn't. There are at least 7 confirmed deaths in Ringgold, and around 130 in Tuscaloosa, including students. Let us for a moment, put aside our pride as Tennessee fans, and show some momentary support for those that were devastated and lost everything last night in the wake of these storms. I feel last night was a testament to God's power, but also his grace and mercy that many were still spared.

Terrible tragedy...I felt a connection to U of A last night watching the coverage of the tornadoes going across the town/campus. They are our SEC brothers and I have many a great memory on that campus...I pray that they stay strong and hope the best for their recovery.

It's just as bad here in Birmingham if not worse. We need to pray for everyone everywhere that was hit by this. They are still finding bodies here in Birmingham. This is crazy. We've got over 1 million people without power and the body count is at 133 here statewide right now as they are reporting.

Well I just got really bad news, my co-worker who I share an office with just found out his step-dad's father was killed last night at his lake house in North Georgia...there were so many trees that fell they couldn't get to his house and finally a neighbor boated over there and found him. He had drove up yesterday from Atlanta to board up the house to keep it safe...

Everyone keep your prayers going because there is still plenty of people not accounted for.

His family was on there way up there to try and find him...it is so sad

Sorry to hear about that. The Fire department I work for here in Douglasville has sent some of our personnel to your city, heard Ringgold got slammed. My Division Chief's mom lives in Ringgold and he hasn't heard from her. God be with everyone up there as well as anywhere else. How much damage did you recieve?

Fortunately, my home was spared, even though I was only 2 miles from it all. I still had to drive to work this morning through downed trees and power lines, and people wandering around like it was a ghost-town, outside their (former) homes. It's really a devastating sight. This video was shot by a guy I play paintball with. This is the one that slammed downtown Ringgold.

I know it's crazy. I live off Ooltewah Ringgold Rd. One of those massive homes w/columns in front was missing it's roof and had a huge tree through it this morning. I'm concerned how I'm gonna get home from work (in Dalton) because I think that the way I got OUT of work this morning will not be passable coming back in town this evening for clean up reasons. This was a terrible thing.

Wow. You're probably 10 minutes from me. E Brainerd/Ooltwah was hammered pretty well too, but no where near what Ringgold got.

I'm about 4 miles from downton, but the massive damage started about halfway between me and downtown. It was way too close for comfort.

I watched this event live yesterday on the internet live feed from ABC 33/40 in Birmingham. My heart sank as I watched the large wedge tornado bear down on Tuscaloosa. This isn't even the first devastating tornado for that city. I remember they had an EF4 in December of 2000 ,but that one mostly sideswipped the highly populated areas of the city. I'll never forget seeing what happened yesterday. Having friends that attend the U of A, I was deeply concerned for their safety. From what I've heard, the tornado narrowly missed the campus by a mile or less. Correct me if I'm wrong ,but I am extremely thankful that it didn't devastate the campus. I've seen the video of the tornado with Bryant-Denny in the backdrop. Incredible footage ,but it makes my heart sink.

My prayers go out to all the people in Tuscaloosa.

this is awful, but you know this will bring more "God loves Alabama" by not tearing apart Bryant-Denney Stadium.

Superficial comment. :bad: At least you qualified it by saying 'this is awful,' because yes, it was.

We were lucky here in Hixson.

I gotta give props to UA students. Listening to CNN radio today it sounded like tons of UA students were out volunteering today to help serach and rescue as well as clean up.

My wife took about $1500 in supplies down Sunday and has been volunteering every day since. Please don't forget. There are kids that went to school today with nothing more than the clothes they were wearing. This state will be recovering for years.
