After watching the satellite loop, noting that the models are moving further East, and also noting that the TPC has not issued its 11 a.m. advisory yet (they run behind when they plan a significant change), my official prediction is that the forecast track is going to shift to the La./Texas border, placing pretty much all of La. under the East side of Rita and pretty much guaranteeing no game for you. Right now, I'd say 70 percent chance it gets cancelled.

The reason is that, if they are going to call it off, they have to do so now. They can't wait until tomorrow.

TCDAT3
HURRICANE RITA DISCUSSION NUMBER 20
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
11 AM EDT THU SEP 22 2005

RITA APPEARS TO HAVE REACHED ITS PEAK INTENSITY DURING THE PAST
12 HOURS. HURRICANES TYPICALLY DO NOT MAINTAIN SUCH HIGH INTENSITY
FOR A LONG TIME. INITIAL INTENSITY ESTIMATE IS 145 KNOTS. ALTHOUGH
SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN INTENSITY ARE LIKELY DURING THE NEXT DAY OR
TWO...DUE TO EYEWALL REPLACEMENT CYCLES...AN OVERALL GRADUAL
WEAKENING TREND SHOULD TAKE PLACE. THIS WEAKENING TREND IS BASED ON
LOWER OCEANIC HEAT CONTENT ALONG THE FORECAST TRACK AND INCREASING
SHEAR. NEVERTHERELESS...RITA IS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL AS A
DANGEROUS HURRICANE OF AT LEAST A CATEGORY THREE INTENSITY.

RITA HAS BEEN MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST OR 295 DEGREES AT 8
KNOTS. A STRONG HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM CURRENTLY CENTERED OVER
NORTHERN TEXAS/OKLAHOMA IS EXPECTED TO SHIFT EASTWARD ALLOWING RITA
TO TAKE A MORE NORTHWESTERLY AND NORTHERLY TRACK. THE EASTWARD
SHIFT OF THE HIGH IS FORECAST BY ALL GLOBAL MODELS...RESULTING IN
TRACK GUIDANCE CONSISTENTLY TURNING THE HURRICANE TOWARD THE
NORTHWEST AND NORTH TOWARD THE UPPER-TEXAS OR THE WESTERN LOUISIANA
COASTS. AFTER LANDFALL...STEERING CURRENTS ARE EXPECTED TO WEAKEN
AND THE CYCLONE COULD MEANDER FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS IN THE VICINITY
OF NORTHEASTERN TEXAS...PRODUCING HEAVY RAINS.

BASED ON THE FORECAST TRACK AND WIND RADII...HURRICANE WARNINGS HAVE
BEEN ISSUED AT THIS TIME FROM PORT O'CONNOR TEXAS TO MORGAN CITY
LOUISIANA. TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT ON EITHER SIDE OF
THE HURRICANE WARNING.

Yeah, when ya think about it---how can the VOLS fly in Sat. As a re-schedule, Sunday is too soon. Is there another open date for both teams?

The La gov is on tv now telling people to head north.

I am sure your folks are on the phone with the LSU people now. It'll be official by 12:30 EST.

I hope this game is cancelled for the teams safety. These kids do not need to be on a plane flying into this type of weather. I hate to even say things like this, but Marshall lost an entire team in a plane wreck. It is not worth the risk.

LSU has already rescheduled its game with North Texas for Oct. 29th. I don't see how either team could reshuffle its schedule to move the game? I think that the SEC would have to move the SECCG back a week to Dec. 10 kinda like 2001 to allow the Tenn-LSU game to be rescheduled.

Would be kind of interesting if the tie-break scenario started to unfold...

Florida has already beaten Tennessee
Tennessee beats Georgia
Georgia beats Florida

Florida 7-1
Georgia 7-1
and Tennessee 6-1 w/o its game against LSU

and what if LSU were 6-1 and had beaten the west leading team that is 7-1? The Tenn-LSU game could determine the participant for both the east and west in the SECCG.

But can they move SEC CSGame back and still mesh with the BCS stuff?

I'm sure accomodations could be made if it mattered in terms of who will play in SEC championship game. If that is not affected, I suspect given the prior commitments and schedules that it would not be rescheduled. Now, calling off a non-cconference game somewhere in there and paying off the cancelled team... that could be interesting. But expensive.

Again, though, if this storm does what it seems like it might in terms of New Orleans, rescheduling a football game is not going to be a high priority, at least for awhile.

Which really sucks, considering how well we are playing now, especially on offense.

=====================================

****EDIT****
Buddy's producer just confirmed that ESPN is reporting that the game is being moved to Birmingham.

****EDIT****

This isn't official but a caller just said ESPN is packing things up at Tiger stadium because the game is being moved to Birmingham. Take it with a large grain of salt.

I'll say it right now that there is no way this game is being played this weekend.
