Predictions?

Thing is, in watching Florida this year, the size advantage has been most pronounced for Florida in the run and gun style. We've got big men, but they are quick, too. No lumbering down the floor. The way to neutralize them is to play aggressively out of a zone and try to deny the inside pass, make us rely on perimeter shooting. Sure, if Taurean Green or Brewer lights it up, it costs you. But if you let us bang it down deep in the paint, it is almost surely an advantage to Florida so best to force the outside shot and be tenacious on the boards.

That all sounds nice LG, but from what I have seen of Pearl thus far, backing in to a half court defense for the majority of a game simply is not going to happen.

I could be wrong. Maybe Barry Bonds never touched a steroid either...

I dont think Florida is going to kill Tennessee if they win. Either way it will be close. I think Lofton keeps us in the game with his 3's and we pull out the W 78-76.

Tennessee will give up????? You haven't been watching the same team I've watched this year if you think our guys are just gonna "give up". This team is all heart. There will be no quitting. I also don't think UF can push us around down low like Bama. UF's frontline is talented, but they aren;t as physical as Bamas, IMO.

I like UF 89-83 tonight.

To the gator that mentioned road wins. We have beat Texas on the road. We have beat the SC on the road, the team that beat you guys twice. We are a lot like USC from a physical standpoint, Gator fans might want to watch out for an "upset" tonight. That size advantage didn't help against the Gamecocks. We UGA on the road, we beat Kentucky on the road, we game Memphis everything they could handle on the road, etc. If we haven't earned the critics' respect by now, forget'em.

I am witnessing at the O-Dome. UF MBA program is taking me in to the game. I don't know if I can get away with wearing Vol orange tonight, but I'm hoping for a Vol victory. Earlier in the year, I'd have predicted a loss. Now, I'm not so sure.

Not sure if that would affect your admission status or not. I would have no problem wearing a big UT sweatshirt but I'm not in your shoes.

The Texas win was so impressive that it is still a mystery to me. Either the SEC is nine million times better than everyone thinks, or Texas had a flat game (actually, a stretch of flat games). My money is on the latter.

I don't see how you are like SC. And that's a good thing.

The win over Kentucky at Kentucky, to me, is the biggest credential in your favor tonight because it means that you will not wilt under the noise and pressure of the ODome crowd. Kentucky really needed that win and your victory there speaks volumes about your team this year.

UT will be ready to play, especially coming off the relatively large margin loss at Alabama. Florida is hungry, too, having let one slip away at Arkansas. If UT wins this game, I think you are on the fast track to a 2 or 3 seed. If Florida wins, I'd say they control their destiny in the same area of seeding ranks.

I am just glad they are showing the game down here...think it's on FSN Sun Shine State or whatever...wonder why is't not a national one...

Current line is Florida -7. Money line on UT to win is +280.

Really?? I don't follow the college money line much but that seems really high.

I was simply talking about our size being comparable to SCs. We are similar to them from a size standpoint. They lack size and a physical presence inside, just as we do.

As for Texas, call it a flat game for Texas or whatever you like. All I know is, we went on the road and dominated them from the opening tip. Yes, they were without Buckman. And they did lose Gibson halfway into the first half. ut, it must be noted that they weredown by about 15 before Gibson went down AND his replacement played VERY well. He was one of the few bright spots for Texas that day.

+280 for a seven point underdog is about standard for college basketball.

I wonder how much point shaving goes on out there. I suppose its possible that a team or players on a team would agree to cut the margin of their victory, but when it comes to the NCAA tournament I just have a hard time seeing kids being willing to take a dive which would end their season.

Sounds to me like someone is trying to convince themselves we just aren't that good...

anyway, the TX win, flat or not or mystery or not, is still a W. A W we weren't supposed to get, regardless of how flat TX was. The KY win wasn't the biggest game, it was validation. to me, the UF game earlier in the year was the biggest game. that was a statement game in conference. and it automatically gave us a leg up on you guys the rest of the way.

and now looking back on it, you could say the 1st win vs. USC was really big, as was the home UGA win.

Combine the upsets we've had this year, with the fact that we've won every game we were supposed to, except 1, that may be more impressive than anything....

I still think we get the W tonight, but even if we lose, what crime is that? We split witf the Mighty Gators....a split that had you told me about in the pre season, i would have taken in a heartbeat.

the thing that the gator fans seem to forget is, your expectation is/was to win, thus if you lose, you really lost. Plus, you have more to lose by losing than we do.

We're the cinderella. We're not supposed to win. We never were. so what happens if we do now? uh, we still get in the NCAA, that's all....

Plus we still got 3 games left against some decent competition, and the SEC tourney to make more of a case.....

But what happens if UF gets swept by another division opponent? you got swept by who? Tennessee? do they even have a bball program?

I know you won't admit it, but you know it's true....you guys are the new tough guy on the block...the so called replacements for KY with Billy D and the rowdy reptiles.....

so strap on that reputation. strap on those expectations. Pile it all on your shoulders and have a good time. if you win, it will feel more like releif than anything else.

no, and i don't know why i got so fired up....i'm the biggest bandwagon bball fan out here...i have never cared about bball like i have this year....probably cause i've never had a team like this to get behind....and we may very well lose, but i just couldn't let it slide.....just some perspective for the 'mighty gators' to think about.....if they win....oh well. If they lose.....OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jake, the main weakness in your post is that the Gators were also supposed to suck this year. Its not accurate to say we "expected" to win these games or, as you put it, be shocked if we couldn't split with you. We weren't in anyone's Top 25, we weren't in the bracketology. In short, we were as no name as UT.

Now, as to the comment about trying to convince myself you aren't that good, truth be told, I think both Florida and UT are "good." Would not be the least surprised if you win tonight. I don't think you will, but its not like we are playing a team that isn't capable of beating us, so as I say hat's off to you if you do.

I don't think either of us is on a par with the top teams in the Big East or Duke or teams of that ilk. We just don't have the personnel or the depth. Can Florida hang with Connecticutt for any given 15 minute period? Sure. But then I think Uconn puts them away over 40 minutes. Can UT hang with Duke for any given 15 minute span of time? Yep. But then Duke pulls away and at the end of 40 minutes they are on top nine games out of ten.

Bottom line is that this game is very big in terms of NCAA seeding and confidence, too, because the loser will have lost two in a row. But as to winning once we get to the tournament, it matters not.

i agree with you about the UConn and Duke thing...i don't think anyone thinks that UT or UF are in the same category as Nova, Duke, UConn, Mem, or even TX (even though we beat them).

But to say that that the expecation at UF was not that they should and would beat TN this year, well i don't buy it. I know you guys weren't highly touted coming in this year, but we weren't and haven't been on the radar in quite some time. And you guys have won the conf, and been to a final four in the meantime...that's all i'm getting at. The expectations at UF are, and rightfully so, higher than any UT fan ever thought they could get for us this year, or any other year....

And honestly, before the season started, what was your expectation for UF bball this season? And in that expectation, did it include a sweep of UT? I would think it did...but only gator fans can answer that.....

I can almost assure you that most UT fans never even thought splitting our division was even possible, much less potential sweeps over UF, UK, and Vandy....which are all still possible...

it wasn't personal brother....your one of the few gator fans i've talkd to, er, "talked" being relative here, that actually has some realistic views....

I just got "all fired up". YOu'd think it was September.

Go Vols.

Ahhhh ..... Yes, good post all around. Yeah, we Gators are known for our unrealsitc expectations. If I'd been asked prior to the season, I'd have said we would shoot for an NIT spot and try to bring some of the young kids along. But it is definitely true in my opinion that both UT and Florida are benefitting from a relatively weak SEC. Won't be that way for long. You put both our teams into the SEC schedule of, say, 6 or 7 years ago and its a far different story than it is to date.

I do think Florida fans will have really ridiculous expectations next year. We start four sophomores and a junior. If they all come back, Florida fans will be thinking watch out!
