If Gustos gets a red for Chelsea last match, then this is a red too. Very similar. Personally, I think both should be a yellow, but at least their bad calls are, well, consistently bad. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
It 1000% was a yellow. There was no ill intent and Jonesā€™ foot was on top of the ball and came down incidentally. Just absolute **** officiating. Jotaā€™s first yellow was suspect as well. Minimum review with no lines referenced on the ā€œoffsidesā€ Diaz goal and the review only took 30 seconds. Iā€™m honestly just blown away by the lack of common sense officiatingā€¦

I agree. I didnā€™t see anything wrong with either red. Cleats halfway up the calf is obviously a straight red (albeit a little unlucky as it seemed unintentional) and Jota stopping a break from behind is definitely a yellow. He probably should have been a little more aware that he already had one of those before sliding in for another tackle after Udogie nicked the ball off of him.

Either way, Spurs were lucky to come away with all three points. I thought it was a very poor showing from them and Matipā€™s own goal bailed them out in the end. Tough break for Liverpool.

It was identical to Gustos red. Gusto slid in, got ball but foot slid off the top off the ball and struck Villa player in the lower calf. I do think both are yellow, but refs say itā€™s red. They have been consistent with that call, even if we donā€™t like it.

That offsides was bad though. I donā€™t get it. Clearly onside.

Iā€™m still not clear on why the Diaz goal was ruled out. Did they ever show the lines, or just move on?

As for Jonesā€™ sending off, for me it was probably an ā€œorange cardā€ that could have gone either way. That said, all anyone can ask for is consistency in the officiating, which we clearly arenā€™t getting. That challenge was far more debatably a red card than this one, which not only was VVD not sent off for, he wasnā€™t even cautioned, nor was it reviewed by VAR. (Edit: he did get a yellow, but they didnā€™t stop play for VAR to have a look)

Less statements and more correct calls please. Oh wait, PL doesnā€™t care about that.

VAR ref was probably just protecting his buddy the main ref.. because, you know, they like to do that. Right Mike Dean?

That doesnā€™t count, it was against the Toffees šŸ˜‰

To your point, all Iā€™m asking for is consistency. The Diaz goal was not offside even to the naked eye. The fact they botched that with VAR and all of the technology they possess is truly baffling.

I hope they release the full audio of this one at some point. My first instinct is that they (once again) drew the line from the wrong defender, but I have yet to see a single image of ANY lines being drawn. This one is a real mystery.

Also, I donā€™t even know what the purpose for trying to cover for the on-field ref would be. It was the linesman who made the call. I watch the PL every weekend, and have for years, and aside from the one woman who made history by being the first, I couldnā€™t name a single linesman in the league. Theyā€™re much less high profile than the head referees.

Plus, itā€™s not difficult to see how he got it wrong on the field. Diaz was clearly ahead of the defender who was marking him, and looking across the line to him itā€™s totally understandable that he wouldnā€™t have seen a leg 20 yards away playing him onside.

I didnā€™t get to watch but based on the statement Iā€™m not even sure they reviewed it. Did they? It said failed to intervene. Not sure if that means they didnā€™t review it at all or didnā€™t deem it to be overturn-able based on a drawing they arenā€™t showing us.

This just keeps getting more ridiculous. What possible explanation can there be for PL match officials being allowed to moonlight at midweek friendlies thousands of miles away?

I know it wonā€™t happen, but aside from goal line technology which with one exception has worked faultlessly for a decade or more, they need to ditch VAR and overhaul it completely. Either train an entirely separate group of officials who do nothing but work the VAR room, or do away with them altogether and just implement the automated offside that worked so well at the WC, and let the on field officials handle cards and PKā€™s.

I will say this. You all know I dislike Liverpool. The only team i dislike more is United. With that said, the offside call was complete garbage. It was obvious without the lines drawn. The red cards however were warranted. Regardless of intent, he nearly broke the opposing players leg and you are responsible for where your foot ends up when you slide hard into a challenge.

Good to get those points on the board. ROUGH stretch from now until early December.
Brutal stretch. The first 7-8 games this season was supposed to be the time to put up points as it was a pretty easy stretch all things considered. That didnā€™t happen.

And now we have more injury concerns too. It just never ends.
