What 12 drivers make the chase in 2011? I'm sure this will be way off by the time the chase starts in September.

1. Jimmie Johnson
2. Denny Hamlin
3. Joey Logano
4. Kyle Busch
5. Jeff Gordon
6. Kevin Harvick
7. Tony Stewart
8. Jamie McMurray
9. Kurt Busch
10. Carl Edwards
11. Clint Bowyer
12. Matt Kenseth

New guys in: Logano, McMurray
Guys left out: Biffle, Burton

10. Greg Biffle
11. Jamie McMurray
12. Jeff Burton

Championship: Denny Hamlin

To be the man you have to beat the man, and no one has stepped up to knock Jimmie off his throne. Denny came close last year, but chocked under the pressure. Now that he knows how to lose one, he can win one. I expect that Denny will be Jimmie's top competition again in '11. Also, if his momentum from the end of last year roles into the next, watch out for Carl Edwards.

It's amazing how strong the competition is at this point in Nascar. It's hard to pick 12 drivers without leaving a lot of good drivers out.

True, but unfortunately the same driver always gets the best of the rest. Maybe this year will be different. :crossfingers:

1. Mark Martin
2. Denny Hamlin
3. Jimmy Johnson
4. Jeff Gordon
5. Matt Kenseth
6. Carl Edwards
7. Kyle Busch
8. Clint Boyer
9. Tony Stewart
10. Greg Biffle
11. Kevin Harvick
12. Jamie McMurray

Hard to leave off J. Burton and Kurt Busch, and Ryan Newman & JP Montoya have potential. My true dark horse to squeek in - Dale, Jr. (laugh all you want, it is the year he should be in after missing.)

I think McMurray can get in too if he can eliminate some of the DNF's. He has proven he can run up front and win big races.

Not in any particular order:

Jimmie Johnson
Carl Edwards
Jeff Gordon
Denny Hamlin
Tony Stewart
Kyle Busch
Greg Biffle
Kevin Harvick
Clint Bowyer
Kasey Kahne
Matt Kenseth
Joey Logano

Note: Even if NASCAR had 15 drivers Dale Jr would still miss out and end up 17th or 18th. He might make one top 10 but that's about it. Can Jimmie win 6 in a row? If he does, it's amazing and he'll have to be ranked in the top 5 of all time.

I agree with you that Kahne win get in this year and Jr would miss even if they let 15 in the Chase.

I'd say Jimmie is already done enough to be classified as top 5 of all time was he finally retires. If he wins 6 in a row, he's beginning to get in a neighborhood for agruments as the best driver of all time.

I'll hold off on Chase predictions until they unveil the format here shortly. An excerpt of an article covering the changes.........

Chase Changes Fuel Pressure – NASCAR is scheduled to reveal its seasonal competition changes next week in a press conference at Daytona International Speedway.

The more anxiously awaited news, however, deals with the Chase for the Sprint Cup and NASCAR’s apparent plans to install major changes in its format. Among the speculation: Expanding the field to 15, having “knockout rounds” to eliminate drivers as the Chase progresses and possibly including a formula that will require drivers to have a race win to be a Chaser.

NASCAR has confirmed none of those possibilities, but it is clear that, whatever the changes, the new Chase will add more pressure on the participants. One of NASCAR’s goals is to create more – in chairman Brian France’s words – “game seven moments,” and that has fueled speculation that there will be more “do or die” scenarios in the Chase.

The general view among insiders is that putting teams’ feet to the fire with elimination rounds in the Chase probably will put more pressure on crew chiefs than on drivers

What they should do is get rid of the chase JMO. The only reason to expand would be to help Dale Jr. try and get in...

I agree. If you keep having to "fix" it than just get rid of it.

I have said from the beginning that it should be knockout format. By the time they get to Homestead it should be down to the top 3 or anyone within 50 points of the leader.

I'd rather see it go back to the way it was before the chase.

Well I think most people would like to see it go back to the old format but Nascar won't let that happen. I'd just like to see something done to make the racing more exciting. I always thought it would be cool if they had a mandatory caution with 13 laps to go in every race and every one on the lead lap had to come get 4 tires. This would eliminate all this gas mileage junk. Put the race back under green with 10 to go and if there was a caution those laps wouldn't count. The GWC finishes could stay the same.

They might as well just run a 13 lap race if they're going to do that. I wish they would only throw cautions when they're actually needed.
