CNNSI recently released its preseason All-America team, which, like most things "preseason", means not much in the long term. Nevertheless, I did note something worth mentioning: Two of the 22 position players named hail from the state of Tennessee. One is Alabama lineman Barrett Jones (Memphis) and the other is Notre Dame safety Harrison Smith (Knoxville).

Leaving aside whether these two players deserve to be so honored - I have no idea, although Jones seems destined for great things - it does indicate that the state of Tennessee is not as bereft of football talent as the conventional wisdom would suggest. It almost goes without saying, on this board, that neither of these players are wearing orange and white.

I know next to nothing about Smith and his recruitment, but I do know that Jones comes from a family of Bammers and his going to Tuscaloosa was a foregone conclusion. Consequently, I'm not going to beat up on whatever UT coaches failed to land these guys. We can't get them all. Still, we have to get at least 50% of these kinds of players if we ever hope to compete again for SEC Championships.
