Vols Trio Makes Coaches' All-SEC Team - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

Jeronne Maymon makes 1st Team
Jarnell Stokes 2nd Team
Trae Golden 2nd Team

The only question I would have about one that made first team is Nerlens Noel. I'm guessing they are basing this off his upside and the impact that Anthony Davis had last year. If anyone that deserved first team on UK's team I would have to say Alex Poythress.

i agree all noel is is simply just hype the has no offense

did u watch noel play in the exhibition games his offense was like 2 school girls fightin willie had to take control

Noel's job isn't to go Jared Sullinger and score 18 a game. He's going to average double figures scoring just on dunks/layups/putbacks alone.

I have nothing against Noel at all, but first team? I don't think so. He's defense is very very good, but on offense he has a lot of work. To be fair I don't like the Preseason All-American and All-Conference stuff. If they don't live up to the preseason they are bust and judged harshly. I think they should have to go out and prove they should be on the list.

Agreed. Poythress will be the better of the 2 come conference time. I'd replace Noel with Stokes for 1st team. As much as a cringe at the fact UTs frontcourt is on 1st team i think its justifiable.

Im not saying Noel is over rated i just think ppl are hyping him up too much. Its simply unfair to compare him to AD and ppl should cut him some slack this early in the season.

Whoaaaaa that's not the least but true...Davis was known to have a decent offensive game coming out of HS.

Other than a jump shot, nobody thought he had a low post game.

I don't think Noel is going be as good as Davis, but he's becoming so overrated he's now underrated.

And Noel has now low post game, or jump shot...

I do agree though, he'll be good, just not Davis good...I'm thinking 3rd team guy though IMO.

12/10/3.5 on a top ten team will get him first team all-SEC

Buckner over Maymon? Buckner is a good player but I can only assume injury has something to do with this...

Come Feburary no way Noel will be on 3rd team. If anything he'll be competeing for first team. Right now he should be 2nd team.

This is actually a really good point. The perception of Noel is so low now due to the overrated talk that he is now underrated.

I'm assuming your list is based on Maymon not returning? Otherwise, can't see 2nd team ALL SEC at end of last year and not making the list at all this year.

Those numbers won't deserve first team all SEC IMO, not on this years UK team.

That means A) He's one of the two best rebounders in the SEC and B) One of the top five shot blockers in the country.

That's all first team SEC. Anthony Davis was what? 14/10/4?

Well see about that, if He's barely a double double guy I don't see him deserving 1st team honors.

In Calipari's offense Noel won't really be asked to have a low-post game. Just dunk the ball on lobs and put backs, run the floor on the break and the occasional screen and roll. The Dribble-drive doesn't have a great deal of low post guys working with their backs to the basket. Noel will probably be in the double-double range every night on put back dunks alone.

I agree, 99% of his buckets will be dunks/layups...but when that was shut down...Davis showed a great 15' jumper, a nice hook shot with both hands, and could even hit the 3 ball...those are all things Noel can't do.

I think Stein will see a lot of those oops and put backs and that it won't just be Noel...

I guess well have to let the season play out, but somewhere around 9-12ppg is really the max I see him at.

Davis started showing those things late in the season when Kentucky really got rolling. Kinda like a young thoroughbred gaining confidence in it's ability to run. Davis never really needed to do those things to be 1st team all SEC. He just started to expand his game as he became more confident. It was a nice side bonus for a kid that was already going to be the #1 overall pick.

As for the 3 pt shooting thing. According to StatSheet He took 20 all year, and 10 of those were after March 1st. And he only made 3 of the 20 he took. That's not exactly setting the bar so high that Noel can't hit it.

I'd be floored if Noel attempted one.
