I think it was Athlon' predicted Tennessee to make it to the Elite 8. Unless the PG play improves drastically, I don't see us making it past the first weekend of the tournament.

That would be great but tough to see when you're led by Maize and Goins.

well i hope i'm wrong, but i just don't see it. we played zero D last yr, we didn't press last yr, we can't shoot worth anything, and we have JP Prince

What does us having JP have to do with anything? I can see us making the elite 8 easliy, the D will be there this yr too. BTW JP was the one who got the O flowing last yr hen they looked dead.:pepper:

JP is a very gifted basketball player who is not a good outside shooter. We have several others who qualify as the same in this area. Don't put him down because he isn't a great outside shooter. He has made many significant contributions to our success and I'm glad he is a part of our team this year. I still remember beating Memphis at Memphis and how JP basically took over that game. Unfortunately, every player is not a great shooter, but can contribute in many other ways.

Memphis i believe he just snow birded so he cld dunk. he has had a few games where he has played well. all he shots is dunks/lay ups who cldn't shoot 62%? the guy is a bum, ya he's gifted, but all he does is point fingers, sure as heck doesn't play D, lazy. all he cares about is dunking. i wish he was half as good as his cousin

This is one of the more asinine criticisms about JP: who couldnt shoot 62% if all they are doing is taking high percentage shots!

No one should be advising low-percentage shots. Seriously, like no one.

The counter to that might be: well he ONLY shoots those, which means he isnt taking enough opportunities. The rebuttle would be that he took more shots than anyone on our team other than Tyler and Wayne. No one else is even close.

Don't fault a guy for playing to his strengths and cutting in for lay-ups instead of taking a low-percentage shot. That's ridiculous.

Hate the personality, fine; but a personality like JP's is only of interest to fans, in the negative sense.

He's probably our 3rd best player by a good margin.

So you're going to tell me that shaq can shoot?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

a) shaq has never shot 62% in his entire career.

b) are you suggesting that even if he had shot 62% that he has somehow been a liability in terms of scoring, FG qua FG?

c) read my last post as it basically tells you what you are assuming I'm missing out on

A) wrong. He was a career 61% shooter at LSU and no doubt was north of 62 at least one season. I'll wager on it

B). You said nothing about scoring. You took the comment about his absolute inability to shoot and bastardized into some conversation about shot selection. Now you've migrated to scoring. He's not a scorer or shooter. He can slash and is an awesome offensive rebounder. He's clearly a tough matchup against a man and rough vs zone.

C). See B.

You'd take him over Hopson?

You're smarter than this, I think.

a) Entirely irrelevant if you read my b), and in fact even goes to the extent of further backing my claim. So, um, thank you? Yes, he shot 62% exactly once. So we're saying that a wing player shot as well as a thoroughly dominant center from 2pt range? I'll take that in a heartbeat.

b) Again, if you had read to my other post prior to your intro in this thread you would have seen all that taken care of rather easily. Go back and read it again if you still think your b) warrants reconsideration.

c) see the big picture

This gets into question of potential and age and whatnot, and while those are worthy factors to consider, if you showed me hopson and prince last year and asked me who would i take based solely on those performances continuing as they had gone: i would take prince without question. I'd hope most people here would, in fact.

But ya, I'd take prince over hopson for this season too. Granted, I don't know how far scotty has come along since last year. It better be a long way, or else that kid is one mega bust.

JP is better than Shaq now... Great!

apples and oranges.

But from a purely one-dimensional standpoint: pretty awesome if our wing man shoots the same % as what shaq--a dominant center--did in college.

I'm actually pretty floored by that myself.

Elite 8, hmm. They better have improved a great deal from last year.

Sadly, I haven't kept up with the Vols BB in the off-season. What does our starting lineup look like?
