preseason poll: expectations. better, worse, neutral

We've now had almost a dozen practices and Butch is soon to name a QB. Before that happens I thought we'd take a snapshot of the ebbs and flows of VN optimism/pessimism with what we do know thus far.

With what you've seen and heard from practice reports are you more optimistic, less optimistic, or of the same opinion as you came in.

FTR I'm definitely more optimistic. Good to see competition across the board.

Over hype has been beat slap put of VN. That's why I didn't get into records. So for example you could have been dreading the 4 win debacle and now maybe you see 5. Thus allowing for optimism, however slim.

I've looked at data and scout reports on this arkansas state team and they seem to be pretty good with 3peat sunbelt championships and 3 bowl appearances (2 wins). I encourage everybody to look at them just as we do Utah state, they aren't a bad team whatsoever and neither is Utah state. 2 losses is actually possible, but not likely at all. -open to all comments-

I think 6-6 is attainable, with some breaks going our way even 7-5. Of course if our QB situation is really bad which it could be then 5-7 might be it.

We are immensely more talented than both of those teams put together. If either team comes within 14 points of us it will be a total shock.

The only "Negative" pub has been from the QB's and they have had a few good days in a row as a unit. Hard not to be excited unless you think no reports matter which isn't unreasonable either.

There is not as much negativity as the vast majority around here want to pretend there is. Some people are off the deep end with it, but most people have reasonable, objective criticisms about the team. It just so happens that such opinions, when stated, bring the ire of a few people and everyone else jumps on board with that group think and then it spirals out of control. The minority, on either side of the discussion, cause more upheaval and arguments than would ever be present if people would just take a minute to think about what they are going to say before vomiting insults and hatred all over the keyboard.

This is true, but early season games tend to have an equalizing affect on talent. The favored teams have not always gotten into the rhythm of play yet. If the underdog gets a break or two then it is game on. With us being so young in so many positions I could easily foresee disjointed play early on in the season. Many of the big upsets you see of small teams over bigger favored teams come in the first 2 to 3 weeks of the season. This hurts us in our first two games but helps our cause in game 3 against ok where we will be the dog. VFL GBO

We win all of our home games except for Bama.

We lose all of our away games except for Vandy.

That gets us to a bowl.
