Most web users are unaware that this satirical article appeared as the top story on Google's Top Stories page without the editor's note that identified it as satire, according to Zone-H.org, a website that tracks web defacements.
Clicking the link, users were taken to a site called Axis of Logic, where the heading "Political Satire" plus the disclaimer: "Yes folks, this story is political satire, not fact" could be seen.
The article was possibly inspired by a Reuters story about the "Center for Constitutional Rights" filing war crimes charges against Donald Rumsfeld, George Tenant and others in the Bush administration.
However, another fraudulent news story is generating more realistic reaction. Displayed upon CNN.com's web design including a legitimate appearing URL, some users are accepting the article as fact at face value.
