President Joe Biden - Kamala Harris Administration

Why corporations are reaping record profits with inflation on the rise
Despite rising inflation, major U.S. corporations are reporting record profits, as companies pass rising supply-chain costs onto consumers. Economics correspondent Paul Solman explores whether concentrated market power is contributing to inflation.

It seems as if the question is, does record corporate profits mean there are people better off than they were before?

Careful with your answer...........it's almost a Catch 22.
I bet you’re one of “those types” that want corporations to pay their fare share 🙄

You and your family are fine...ok. So your raises have been more than inflation? Do you realize the average family is not fine.

Some people don't truly care to comprehend the hurt. Let's look at gas prices alone. Gas has gone up on average $1.41 person gallon year over year (probably more since Biden took office). Let's take a conservative example. You use 20 gallons to fill up once a week. That's an additional $28.20 per week. That averages to $122.20 per month, or $1,466.40 per year.

That is only for gas. It's worse than that for many. This is not including all the other price increases, empty shelves, increased crime, worse school results, the general degradation of society, the sieve at the border, the head in the sand policy decisions, etc.

Do you think wages rise this fast? This is an awful administration policy wise. We won't get into the low character and lack of honesty.

If wages keep up or there's an attempt to make wages keep up, that just pumps the inflationary cycle harder. The only way to really tackle inflation is to go after the cause which is generally the most difficult option. In this case taming energy costs would go a very long way though. This is where I see a big difference between the typical politician and someone who actually runs things like a business. A politician and particularly one like biden will do all the wrong things; someone who is good at understanding issues or at managing them will attempt to go after the problem. Trump would have been by far the better option here. Our clown posters can make fun of "reality show Donnie" but the truth is that he got there through business - as shady as real estate and his handling of it might be. Biden jumped in on day one with both clumsy feet and set the energy problem in motion - it's that simple.

I’ve certainly heard of “2000 mules”. I have not seen it. And this article is the first I’ve read on it.

I would imagine this quote from the GBI sums it up nicely-

- GBI Director

Code words for "Looks like there's a problem here that we don't want to touch, so let's just say there's small potential rule bending that we're going to ignore ... and hope it doesn't come back and bite us in the azz like the huge wildfire it could be. Until then we'll keep ignoring our job."

I’m of the opinion that the global economic shutdown was far more impactful than was previously believed.

Of course, it was. But what of the overlong supply lines caused by globalism and selling out US workers for cheap Chinese labor? This is a lot like the "did the person die of covid or preexisting conditions"? How often can you really separate the two? The person obviously might have gone on living if not for covid, but then the covid infected person might well not have died without the other factors. Fuel prices can be a similar argument here after all thousands of miles across an ocean with high fuel costs perhaps inflates prices and disrupts the supply chain faster than manufacturing at home - especially with port bottlenecks. Keep things simple and there's a lot less chance for screwups.

He inappropriately reduced taxes while spending out of his a$$.
I liked the reduced taxes….. I would be ok with raising taxes if the government didn’t waste the money they took in….. I do agree with you about Trumps spending…. It was my biggest complaint about him….. I don’t think Biden or any politician is working to reduce the deficit though…if you can find one…. I will vote for him/her.

It’s not a catch 22. Nobody is better off some can just absorb the impacts of this abysmal administration better than others.
What? Corporations having all time record profits do not lead to anybody being better off?
Then we've been far to concerned about corporate profits and the effects of corporate taxes.

That has nothing to do with the average American other than higher costs, you stated that “you” were better off so unless you are the CEO of one of those companies how are you better off than two years ago? You aren’t and you aren’t being truthful
My salary is up and my expenses are down.

The polarization started way before Trump, but all you know is Trump upsets you to the point you still soil yourself and cry and pee when you hear his name.
Everyone acknowledges there has always been polarization and a divide. Trumpism was an emphatic statement that there not only would be no effort to lessen those things, but every effort to increase them.

I read on here multiple times that Trumpism was a middle finger to the left. It was indeed, and it was received that way.

Which corporations are having record profits and who is it benefiting? I guarantee those working at those "corporations" aren't getting income adjustments to keep up with the rampant inflation due to the idiots currently running the country into the ground.

The only ones coming out ahead these days are government workers and retirees. My pension is stuck at what it was the day I retired, no COLA for me, just higher prices and less spending dollars in my wallet.

Yea that 2.5% cola raise isn't gonna cut it anymore for those "corporation" employees.

It may be that the "idiots" are the heads of the corporations making record profits who do not pass more on to their employees, or reduce the prices to their customers during this painful time of "inflation".

Your stance is you were cool with it considering this moronic administration started killing our energy independence on day 1 and was complicit in helping fund the Russian invasion.
He didn't kill our energy independence....more propaganda. Help fund the Russian invasion?

You personal situation changed.

Most haven’t.

Plus you’re still paying more per mouth fed. More per mile driven.
I said my economic situation is better than it was two years ago. The same is true for every member of my family.
I was called a liar by a number of idiots.

I've paid more per mouth fed pretty much every year. The amount I've paid per mile driven has fluctuated since 1976, the year I started filling the tank.

So the idiots in charge are hoping the 1% they keep company with will give more to employees. They aren't in the federal government and have others to answer to.
