"Lane Kiffin and his Tennessee staff came up just short this week in their recruiting pitch to Miami (FL) transfer Robert Marve, who chose a scholarship offer from Purdue over walking on this year in Knoxville."

Uhh? what?

Hendrix is supposed to be one of the top QBs we are after.

That is funny. Since they weren't allowed contact with him. LOL

Maybe Kiffin contacted him telepathically?

Oh please. Thats why Scroggins has offers from USC and Florida, Hendrix has an offer from OSU, and Heaps has an offer from Cal, LSU, FSU, OU, ..etc?

I think those coaches might know a little bit more than you.

Munchies best offers besides us are Oregon and Michigan.

Stars: yes
Offers: No

If a guy has offers from LSU, Florida, OU, USC, ..etc, chances are that he's a lot better than the guy with offers from Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, ..etc

i can name some pretty damn good QB's that didnt go to any schools like that, i would say at one point 50% the nfl QB's played at DII and smaller schools.

phil simms morhead state
ken o'brien UC davis
jeff hostetler WV before they were on the map
don majakowski, UVA
boomer esiason maryland.
doug williams grambling

i know recurting wasent as competitave as it was then, but they had more scolarships to offer back in those days to. i dont care who has offers from where, not in the least when was the last time any of those teams produced a really productive NFL qb besides maybe carson palmer ?

also id like to go back and look at some of the offers some of our better QB;s like , robinson, kelly, francis, shuler , id like to see who all offerd them.

I hate to be the person to break this news flash to you, but recruiting NOW is 1000x more competitive than it was then.

I think we have a better shot with scroggins. Itd be great if we could get two top caliber QBs though.

intresting i did not know that. but i still stand by my argument, i think the 2 best players to ever play the game were from miss valley st and jackson state.

Jerry Rice and Walter Payton played in at a time when recruiting wasn't NEARLY as advanced, so the chances of a star falling through the cracks were 1000x more than what they are today. And Walter Payton is not one of the top two football players of all time... Maybe not even the best RB. Here are some of the top football players of all time and their colleges:

Joe Montana: Notre Dame
Jim Brown: Syracuse
Johnny Unitas: Louisville
Jerry Rice: MVSU*
Lawrence Taylor: North Carolina
Emmit Smith: Florida
Tom Brady: Michigan
Peyton Manning: Tennessee
Dick Butkus: Illinois
Barry Sanders: Oklahoma State
Marvin Harrison: Syracuse
Dan Marino: Pittsburg

and those are just off the top of my head....

Impressive list. I would add Sammy Baugh who holds many QB records but also played defense, Morten Anderson who scored 2544 points, and if your talking about players from none D1 Schools, Kenny Anderson put up some big numbers for the Bengals. He played collegiatly at Div. III Augustana.

And really, Barry Sanders doesn't belong on that list. He didn't start until the 5th game of his senior season and the only scholarship offer he got was from Ok State, which was not much to write home about even back then. Then, when he got on campus, he had to ride the bench behind Thurman Thomas for 2 years.

Sanders could have very easily been a nobody at some NAIA school and gone undrafted. OK St. was a slight improvement over that...
