Skip First paragraph if you could careless about previous coaches..... I may delete it before i get done writing this anyways lol!

I think you can and almost always could tell what kind of coach you have by the end of year 2. With out doing any research and off the top of my head that's how i feel.
Just stating that before I get started in this. It sucks that we've been down so bad the past 15+ years from unfortunate circumstances ..,(Kiffin bolting for USC) which is where he wanted to be and i honestly don't hold it against him at all. I think he regrets it tremendously. To in my opinion our worst hire.. Dooley. who had no business at that time being a head coach in the SEC. With that being said though dooley was a Def. Cord. away from buying himself a few more years. Butch also was close to buying himself a few years. Pruitt .... I don't even know maybe he could be successful elsewhere. But we've seen many "Home-Run" hires fail even at big money schools Tom Herman, Scott Frost Etc etc. What jimbo is doing at Tex A&M is baffling.

Despite All the bad Coaches we've went through we have been so close to big wins and also blown away by many teams. What Heupel has done in 2 years I truly don't think anyone else in the country could have done it the way he has. Our roster is not anywhere close to the likes of UGA, BAMA, Tex Am, LSU, and many more. Heupel didnt bring in a ton of transfers maybe because of the investigation who knows why.... i was hopefully for a bunch of big names in the portal last year... Linebacker from bama thats at ark, Tank from aub, Owen pappoe, ark gilbert, etc. But heupel took the majority of what we had and turned this program around. I am confident that Heupel can lead us back to the top of the SEC. With the season he has had hes put tennessee up there with the top destinations for transfers and high school recruits. He will def have season that are not on par with this one even with better talent. but as this roster improves i think we see the VOLS at the top more times than not.

The new rules have made rebuilds a thing of the past.... and a lot easier at the likes of your bigger more prestigious colleges. We are seeing it come full with what LSU has done this year. Kelly lost a lot of players but brought it to more highly rated players than he lost. If Kiffin takes the Auburn job they could compete for a title in the next two years and maybe next year.

The NIL and transfer rules I think will help keep us at the top and i hope with everything in me That this team gets the chance that it 100% deserves to compete for a national championship this year. I 100% think Heupel can win it all if given the chance despite not having the roster uga or ohio state does. Its a tall task to beat those but this team is so special and its been over 20 years...Its something you def cannot take for granite. I know we're in good hands for the future and if he makes it happen this year it would help catapult us on our way to having the rosters uga and bama does. Go Vols!

a lot of rambling i was bored

The new rules haven't made rebuilds a thing of the past unless you think what Heupel has accomplished to this point is something easily replicated anywhere. The only thing the new rules and Heupel's success have really done is make impatient fan bases everywhere even more hair trigger. I hope Heupel can keep this thing going.

Let's keep an eye on Auburn and see how quick they turn it around. I think there is some uncharted territory with NIL and transfer portal. Heupel was able to leverage a lot of that and also having a Covid redshirt year, which won't happen again. If you hired Butch, Pruitt or Dooley for the start of the 2020 season not knowing any of their history, I think they would have mucked it up as they did years ago. Heupel was able to get in there and listen to the beefs of the players that didn't bail out and get their attitudes adjusted. He's a players coach, not a car salesmen (Butch and his bricks), an illiterate ahole (a'ight, Pruitt) or a trust fund baby (Dooley).

Rebuilds are not a thing of the past. There are certain play schemers and player developers which do more with less. Those coaches give the illusion of rebuilds being a thing of the past. We have those types of coaches, now. BK at LSU is a good coach. There was a lot of talent exit but LSU still has lots of talent in the program. LSU also benefited from UF, Aubie being down and Bama not playing up to talent.

The biggest difference other than Heupel being an offensive genius and a relatable dude, is that we have a real AD, who does his job. We have a guy who understands what it takes to win and has everything aligned perfectly for Josh Heupel and this program to succeed.

Yes, Josh Heupel deserves a ton of credit for the transformation at Tennessee. But Danny White is not far behind that.

Its definitely a long road to hold. I just hope that CTB won't be the Escape Goat if we can't win. He is definitely missing some pre-madonnas on Defense. We should probably take this season with a grade of slaw, since nobody expected this.
thanks alot i wont be getting that drink of coffee back, computer also thanks you for the bath !!!!!!!!!!

think back over the Mike Leach years--going back to Texas Tech. He's always had a quarterback who could throw the ball to receivers who could really catch the ball. He's done it with the players he had around, and he just coaches them up. And this is what coach Josh Heupel does!

Except Leach is like a nat around a Buffalo’s azz.
Always buzzing around but never getting anywhere .

I think Heupel is a lot better coach than Leach. Leach is more a true pass oriented offense than Heupel's. Leach hasn't had the kind of success at his previous stops as Heupel has. Once the defense is deeper, the offense could be overwhelming to anyone Tennessee plays, since the offense is actually a run heavy offense.

Josh Heupel is a Heisman caliber real ball player. Leach is a manager on a low classification high school team sorting out towels and socks.
