This was mentioned in the Gruden thread but I figured it'd get passed over. Does anyone know who broke the news of Kiffin and Dooley here? And how far in advance it was broke? I wasn't around here then and I'd love to know this information.

I know Jimmy Hyams always claimed he broke the Kiffin thing.

I was out of town and my dad called me to tell me the day before Thanksgiving that Kiffin as going to be the coach. Not sure when it was officially announced (maybe the following Monday?).

I was in Knoxville for Dooley's hiring. I heard about it first on the Basilio show. Tony was pretty sure it was a done deal. Went home and looked the guy up and said "Oh no!" It seemed like the other news outlets put it out that evening. I think he was announced the next day.

It was different situation under a different AD. Information was easy to gather then about the coaching situation because Fulmer's fate had already been sealed. I was told that we weren't going to hire a big money coach after Kiffin left, primarily because they weren't available and UT would not commit the resources. This is a different situation now and UT seems willing to pay big money for the right coach.
