The Pride Of The Southland Marching is one of many great Tennessee traditions and serve as ambassadors. The sight and sound should make those that love Tennessee swell up with pride. :salute: They are absolutely fantastic . :salute:

Has a new director of POTS been named?

Always been a fan of The Pride Of The Southland Marching Band. Its one of those things that separates the college game day experience from the pros.

Great for the program, great for the University, and great for Tennessee Tradition.

In the interest of full disclosure, I went to school there so I'm a little biased.

It's sad that you have to actually put this into words and post this here. It should go without saying but some around here have tried to diminish the contributions that the band makes to the game day experience at Tennessee and across the country.

Dave Hart, vice chancellor and director of athletics , would rank as the number one opponent of the "Pride of the Southland".

I do not understand this statement, nothing he has done has given me this impression.. maybe I am missing something? Using some popular recent music from a DJ is not POTSB hate, just progression IMO.. The players like to hear some music that motivates them every now and then.. IF the players like it then I like it.. JMHO

Too epic!

My oldest son received his acceptance letter for the Pride just a couple of weeks ago. I guess in addition to all home games this season, I might be looking for some Bristol tix as well.

Aw, shucks. :good!:

I have to disagree. Attended 4 home games this year and went to my first many years ago. This year the POTSB looked left out. Just noticeably having to sit there. Seemed pitiful and disgraceful IMO. Not a fan of all the DJ crap.

A suggestion: might want to wait before shelling out the bucks for the race. It says that 100 of the 330 members will be there, not the full band. Being he's a freshman there's a better chance he wont go that will. Now, he might but it probably would be a late decision. Unless you're a big race fan then you'll see a classic race, the POTSB, and a chance to see your son in it.

But he should have fun. A lot different that HS where you had to raise money and shell out bucks for him to be in it. They pay for the trip and give him a per diem for food. A lot of practice but if we get to go to a bowl game, its all worth it. I wouldn't trade my 4 years for anything.

It's a fine line that Hart walks...any music other than the Pride is construed as Pride Hate. If he doesn't play the canned music, he's not keeping current and doing what recruits and players expect.
